I think the question was why he ever joined Labour in the first place. Always seemed bizarre.

I think the question was why he ever joined Labour in the first place. Always seemed bizarre. I would say for quite genuine reasons that this is the first bit of good news for Labour.

One in Pompey in the aftermath of UKIP winning nothing here this year: Pardon my cynicism, but does it have anything to do with the numbers on HFRA? He's been there for the last year as a UKIP member, along with 1 Tory & 1 LD.

He's been there for the last year as a UKIP member, along with 1 Tory & 1 LD. I doubt it. I think his reasons are genuine, he was never one for whom the rhetoric of UKIP ever seemed particularly important and it's clear that he's rejoining the Conservatives for national reasons, not local ones (he has little time for the Tory leader of the council). I would not be surprised if there wasn't another UKIP to Tory defection in the city quite soon now.

I would not be surprised if there wasn't another UKIP to Tory defection in the city quite soon now. Which would mean that UKIP would have lost half their Portsmouth councillors in the space of a year.

As the story correctly points out, Greg Foxsmith resigned from the Liberal Democrats nationally in 2013 over their human rights record in government (although I understand he pledged loyalty to their council group in Islington).

Interesting that Chris Irvine lost, I hadn't realised that.

Interesting that Chris Irvine lost, I hadn't realised that. I think he didn't stand. He had been selected for Rochester West for the Tories before he defected, rather than Peninsula.

He stood in Rochester East, coming 4th behind the 2 Labour candidates and the top Conservative. Over 500 votes off being elected.

Why did he move wards? I assumed he'd stayed in Peninsula.

This one will bring back a few memories ... not good ones.
Worcester City Council: Alan Amos, elected for Labour in Warndon ward, left to sit as an Independent a year ago when the Labour group refused to make him Deputy Mayor - and then voted out a Labour administration and voted in a Conservative one, has now joined the Conservatives. Or should I say "rejoined".
