There must be people who have unsuccessfully applied to join the Lib Dems, but I can't think of one off the top of my head. The Greens, yes Happens more often than you think. Most are very local and not widely known, but we've declined a member application or two down here in the last few years (and as mentioned elsewhere, an MP potential detector was rejected too).

That is interesting. What about people who are not defectors? People who were not in any party? You must therefore have a process whereby people who apply to join the party are "considered". Who decides if they get accepted or refused?
I would assume that perhaps the membership secretary is authorised to accept anyone, and authorised to refer any application to a committee if they have concerns.
Same question to the other parties if anyone wishes to answer. If a know loose cannon applies to join, who decides if they get in?

This came up a little while back. While anyone (idiot, racist and/or other) can go online pay £12 and get a conformation that they've joined, they can retrospectively be kicked out/refused membership if deemed to be too unsavoury. Quite what the bar is I don't know.
Slightly embarrassing for all concerned however when someone brags online about joining and are then told quite publicly "No you haven't, you're not welcome."
The normal process for a Councillor however would be to have a quiet word with a whip about joining first.

Well Ken Livingstone bragged online about applying to join the Greens but they rejected him.

Yes, I noticed that - but she has been retweeting Cameron and Sunak, so I think she really has switched. A rather unusual move in the current climate.

There's always one and probably more than one. Although it doesn't seem so at times, politics is a people business and people change their minds all the time, regardless of prevailing trends.

I'd have thought that with those views she would be better off with Reform.

Bill was originally Con, of course. Joining the AI takes him on the side of the administration (AI/Green) rather than with the Cons (and Labour for that matter) in opposition.

Yes, I noticed that - but she has been retweeting Cameron and Sunak, so I think she really has switched. A rather unusual move in the current climate. She obviously likes the fact that Sunak is a wet. Given today's news, would be a good reason to stay with Ed.
