Bizarre coincidence I’ve literally just spoken to the guy who runs Stoke South’s 200 Club and he mentioned Rob Flello’s never cancelled his direct debit. I remember, 'cause I am getting old, that Shirley Williams forgot to cancel her Standing Order to Labour for a while after she joined the SDP. Given her powers of organisation, I wouldn't be surprised to learn it is still in place.

No she probably stopped in the mid-90’s when the Party changed banks and we all had to amend our SO or DD mandates.🙄

His exchange of correspondence with Esther Rantzen is worth looking out. His alter ego, William Donaldson, was a fascinating character as well. Did he tell her it was nothing to do with the gas board? Electricity board!

I've had word that the three Brexit Party councillors in Burnley (all in Hapton with Park ward, all former UKIP) have defected to the Conservatives.
Nobody saw that one coming, I'm sure.

I am surprised there are any councillors left belonging to either the Brexit Party or UK Independence Party.
The United Kingdom is leaving the European Union in five days; after that neither of the aforementioned political parties will have any real reason to exist.

You'd be amazed, and there is a curious precedent. After the foundation of Germany, the DHP (German-Hanoverian Party) was formed to fight for a new state to be carved out of Orussia, focused on Hanover and its surroundings. After the war, the Lower Saxony State Party was formed as a vehicle for achieving a Lower Saxon state/renewal of the Kingdom of Hanover. Once this was achieved, they merged into another party. Ten years later, they then split back out again as the DHP, even though the reason for their existence had already been resolved.

As if that was the reason any of the defectors to the Brexit Party were joining it?! It only ever was a staging-post in this way. The new Tory councillors in Burnley will get plenty of financial support for May's elections, now that they have a Tory MP.

I do like the idea of a Blackburn with Darren council.
