No official results until Tuesday but if media reports are true the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Mursi topped the poll while former PM Ahmed Shafiq was a close second. These two will advance to a run off in mid June.
This result is essentially the final defeat for the liberal revolutionaries who toppled Mubarak.

Lost a battle, but not the war. Maybe....... It is an interesting question, though, where places like Tunisia and Egypt will turn if they become disillusioned with Islamists. Always assuming that their current rulers don't adopt the Hamas maxim of "one man, one vote, one time" of course

Thought Stalin's was the one about counting the votes?? That's the Stalin quote which actually has a reasonable source to it. ;D

Utter chaos looms in Egypt.
The Supreme Court has ordered that the lower house of parliament be dissolved as the election of 1/3rd of the seats by FPTP was unconstitutional. Presidential run off in a few days but the President's powers have not yet been defined by Parliament.

Looking like turnout could be well down....... With the recent court ruling and the lack of a "liberal" candidate in the run off that is hardly surprising.

It is rumoured that Ahmed Shafiq will be announced as the winner. But did he get the most votes?

Hmmm, so it would appear those wanting to rig the election lost the argument.......

Bad news for Assad. I hope the new Egyptian president focuses on Syria rather than Israel.
