It’s the Azeri Presidential Election today.

Ilham Aliyev is running for a fourth term. Given Azerbaijan is a kleptocratic “managed democracy” he will win in a landslide. Last time in 2013 he got 84.54% of the vote. 


The opposition is boycotting the poll and is already planning demonstrations in response. However, the main opposition “Musavat” or Equality Party, is a Pan Turkic nationalist and Islamist Party and so is not a very popular party in largely secular Azerbaijan.

It’s barely even that, last time the results were leaked before the polls opened.😂 In the end he ended up getting 12% more than the leaked results suggested.

Turnout so far - 3,716,135 votes. 74.51%.

Ilham Aliyev 3,192,522 votes. 86.00%. Nice round figure😂

Zahid Oruc 115,462 votes. 3.11%.

Turnout - 3,949,606 or 74.30%

Ilham Aliyev, New Azerbaijan Party, 3,397,664 which is 86.03%.
Zahid Oruj, Independent, 123,006 which is 3.11%.
Sardar Mammadov, Azerbaijan Democratic Party, 119,674 which is 3.03%.
Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Popular Front, 119,390 which is 3.02%.
Hafiz Hajiyev, Modern Equality Party, 59,977 which is 1.52%.
Araz Alizada, Social Democrat, 54,603 which is 1.38%.
Faraj Guliyev, National Revival Movement, 46,010 which is 1.17% and finally,
Razi Nurullayev, Independent, 29,282, which is 0.74%.

Another “election” in Azerbaijan over. The next one is in 2025.
