Except he was term limited and therefore didn't get re-elected. Due to the term limit did he not try and run against one Hillary Rodham Clinton for the vacant New York senate seat only to pull out due to some scandal? IIRC correctly it wasn’t just a scandal - he left his then wife for a future wife - but he was also diagnosed with prostate cancer that required immediate treatment, both occurring at the same time over about a month over April/May of election year.

Bad days for me Wednesday, have an extended care call, that buggers me up physically, and today thought it was fun to rock up an hour early, so general rule of thumb is ignore anything I type on a Wednesday. Putting aside the confusion there though is it not believed Michael Bloomberg's election as a then Republican was helped by how Giuliani was perceived to have done on 9/11? And also the Democratic nominee, Mark Green, going on TV saying Giuliani hadn’t done a particularly good job post-9/11 and that he would have done far better.

Colorado has released the draft Congressional map for 2022. Democrats are supposedly not too happy with it as it has the potential to be a 4-4 in a good Republican year.

Read up a bit on it again last night, looks like it would have been a genuine contest before all those issues occurred with Giuliani playing the carpet bagger card.

Preliminary ranked choice voting results from New York show Eric Adams leading the Democratic primary for Mayor but only by a narrow margin over Kathryn Garcia. That doesn't include absentee ballots which haven't yet been tallied.

How can you do AV if you haven't counted all the first preferences first?

How can you do AV if you haven't counted all the first preferences first? The Australians do, but they’re always provisional until all first ballots are counted; there are always a couple of electorates where Antony Green ignores the on the night Two Party Preferred from the Electoral Commission because he doesn’t think their top two will be the actual top two. I think on NYC’s case the fact Wiley in third has conceded indicates they know a) which Boroughs are strongest for each candidate, b) how many absentee ballots remain from each Borough, and c) how the first, and likely largest, tranche of absentee ballots have broken by Borough.

UPDATE: The New York City Board of Elections have just pulled today’s update from their website and replaced it with a statement that Unofficial Rank Results will be posted from 30 June.

When it comes to the conduct of elections New York is essentially a banana republic. There is no way anybody can have confidence that close results correctly reflect the way people voted.

I really cant believe that they aren't organized, who is charge of their elections? Do you know I am an Election freak but even I have lost interest!

The New York State Board of Elections is basically a combination of State Democratic Party powerbrokers, their families, and those who owe their position to the patronage of those powerbrokers.
