This sunDay will bring lots of thirdClass-elections (cantonal referenda, local elections, 1 unopposed minister in AR). Most attention might bring a byElection for 1 of St.Gallen's SenateSeats (the SPS-inCumbent retired). 4 woMen run. In this canton, which is - for Swiss levels - partly deprived exIndustry (textile), the SVP could even have quite a chance with a well-liked woMan (by the way the girlFriend of exPartyPresident Brunner, who was for a SVP-politician also comparatively popular):

In St.Gallen the SVP is quasi safe - as usual, the weaker left candidate (here narrowly GPS) will step aside, but for stopping SVP both would have to do so - to gain in the runOff on April 30th the SenateSeat from SPS:

In AppenZell-AußerRhoden the government was reelected (with 1 new FDP-woMan): Parliamentary elections will follow on April 16th (my birthDay).

Cantonal elections are coming up on 2nd April in Ticino, Geneva, and Lucerne.
In Ticino, the SVP and Lega are forming a joint list. The two sit together at a federal level but have previously been in competition in Ticino itself. The Lega used to be, and might be, the only party that advocated Swiss territorial expansion.

Overshadowed by the CreditSuisse-causa - which will hurt FDP and help the left parties (and perhaps a little bit SVP?) - 3 cantons will go to the polls tomorrow (dressRehearsal for the federal election in 6 months). %-changes: Cantonal seats (& sum): Cantonal ministers:

1st: Canton Geneva: Elec.res. for the - federal big chamber ("NationaRat"): - StändeRat (Swiss Senate): - cantonal parliament: - cantonal government: I am ware of only 1 opinionPoll, which is by a widely unknown pollster and looks very fishy: Yes, Geneva has a tradition of someTimes spectacular successes for xenophobic parties (though MCG opposes commuters from France, who have the same language, so are not even really xenoi/foreigners), but MCG is presently in bad shape.

2nd: Canton Ticino: - federal NationalRat: -- NationalRat, deViations: - StändeRat (Senate): - Cantonal parliament: - Cantonal government: N.B., that in TI the people elect for the government not individuals (as in nearly all other cantons), but partyLists. Thus the present composition (2 LegaTic./LT, 1 for the others) is very likely to remain according to the 2 opinionPolls (same company): ...but only for joint lists. Within LT and UDC/UDF (=SVP) SVP could take away the second seat of its ally LT, if we look at the polled % for the parliament: Despite being led by an Italian (partyPresident Chiesa) the SVP is still seen as the party of retired germanSwiss; yet, it has campaigned heavier than the established parties and the latter will quite certainly ground (once again).

In Geneva the PV were counted and indicate, that the "party" (=personal vehicle) of Maudet - once a rising star of PLR/FDP, who was thrown out and had to step down after a privately paid trip to Dubai and failed to get reelected as minister (thus delivering RedGreen a majority in government) - will get 10 and the bourgeois parties in toto not less than 69/100 seats (strong gains for UDC/SVP, smaller ones for MCG, losses for FDP [Credit Suisse?]). Also, because the GreenLiberals might not pass the required 7%, as well as the far left, which was once more divided. (Thus working hard on defending its "fame" as "the world's stupidest left"...)

In the ministerRaces Maudet is presently on the 5th place. TheMid & MCG aren't in the top 7 - what means, that the left is in good positions for the runOff on April 30th - due to an ununited midRight-camp (TheMid was hesitant to join forces with the UDC/SVP).

For Lucerne's cabinet 61/80 municipalities are done. The inCumbents (just 2/5: 1 FDP & TheMid resp.) are naturally ahead, quite en par a woMan (the present gov. has been entirely male) from TheMid. The SVP-man is presently narrowly above the needed limit, but will surely not reach it, when the (semi)urban areas will be counted. The SPS-woMan is farer behind, but ahead of the GreenLiberals' candidate.

Canton Ticino has seemingly not counted the parliament-votes yet; yet, for the ministerElections we have already voteTransfers:

Summary of 5-changes since the last federal election in cantonal elections (without TI): Surprisingly good night for the SVP and even the CreditSuisse-plagued FDP (the losses in Geneva were caused by prominent exMinister Maudet, who was expelled from PLR/FDP and ran with his own "party").
