Trawling through old Dorset County Council elections (http://www.electionscentre.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Dorset-County.pdf) one result was particularly surprising:
Poole No. 6, 1977 Bisgood J. Con 2,511 96.3
Kara F. Lib 96 3.7
I found it unusual that less than 5% of voters chose the only opposition candidate, despite them being from a major party (albeit in a not-so-great year for said party).
Excluding the many uncontested elections over the years, does anyone know of other extraordinarily high win margins?

Looking at it, three independents beat the Conservatives in 2008, then it happened again in 2012 with a much higher margin, and in 2017 two of them were elected as Conservatives whilst the other (Sanders) narrowly missed out on re-election as an independent.

Jayne Cowan and Adrian Robson (who are married) were originally Conservatives had a rather large falling out with them and went independent and won re-election in 2008 and 2012 with another independent candidate each time. They rejoined the Conservatives just after the GE in 2015. Jayne went on to contest the 2016 Assembly Election for the Conservatives in Cardiff North. Jayne and Adrian held their seat under their new colours last year along with a third Conservative (they left their former independent collegue high and dry). Adrian is now the leader of the Conservative Group (and official opposition) in Cardiff as of last summer. They are both phenomenal campaigners and apart from a short stint where Adrian worked for Criag Williams MP as a caseworker I think they're both effectively full time Councillors. twitter.com/JayneCowantwitter.com/Adrian1Robson

Not a record breaker, but this one sticks in the memory: Kintbury Parish Council by-election Jon Hemphill (non-desc) 341 (91.67%) Andrew Stott (BPP) 31 ( 8.33%)

Pretty decisive 4-cornered contest in Ashford 1991:-

Without having the figures immediately to hand, I think there were a few wards in places like Barking & Dagenham or Newham in the 1960s and 70s where the result was something like
Labour 2,000 Labour 2,000 Labour 2,000 Conservative 100
or occasionally where the losing candidate was a Communist rather than a Conservative.

For general elections, the record is East Kerry in 1885:
Jeremiah Sheehan (Nat) 3,169 Charles Robertson (Con) 30

Cambell in Barking in 1964 is a good example: four Labour candidates with 1,963 to 2,007 votes, and one Conservative with 169.

We'd only moved into the area the previous autumn, and I hadn't had time to 'network' much with people in Watford CLP, who very sensibly weren't very interested in the enterprise. I knew it was going to be a bad day when the pensioner I took in the car to the polling station had already voted by post....

Funny that Giles-Medhurst had also originated in Harrow - presumably you knew him from then? (was that your wife who stood against him in Headstone South in 1990?)
