SMRA = Solihull and Meriden Residents' Association, set up in 2010. Interesting that LDs once held this ward but haven't stood since 2012.

Quite an impressive Independent in Exmouth - wonder if she has any links to the independent parliamentary candidate there who did so well?

Mike- What have you seen to rate her as impressive? I know she is a craft teacher at Exmouth college (so called "professor" -puzzled by that) -have you seen some literature? Don't know if she is part of Claire Wright's organisation but wouldn't be surprised as there must be quite a lot of helpers out there to deliver 21k general election votes, however there are a lot of independents around in that part of the world - there were two more alternatives at the GE , and a history of indies standing in this ward without making much impact. Don't know much about the defending Lib Dem either but feel Tim Dumper is an unfortunate name, though it might appeal to some corners of the Lib Dem world

Seems refreshingly sane (small town independents are often single issue wackos)

Is there a connection between the collapse of the LD vote and the rise of SMRA? Probably not. I think they're more a localist bunch, with concern about traveller sites as one of their key planks. There has been trouble with some such sites - not that they're ever popular - and the council's handling of them has been poor at best.

Nope. She set up We Demand a Referendum. She has, however, had quite strong links with SMRA over the years, so it's an understandable mistake to make.

She stood as a candidate for them in the Meriden parly in 2010, getting a magnificent 658 votes.

The weather forecast for Exmouth on Thursday is like something out of "The Day After Tomorrow". The turnout without the postal votes should be interesting!

Of course when you posted this, the election was indeed the day after tomorrow. I imagine it could be fun in Basingstoke, Solihull and Clackmannanshire as well. I wonder what proportion of the total vote will be pv's in each. We could have a new prediction competition working out those scores.

Looking at the forecast I expect East Devon and Clackmannanshire councils to tweet today that they are seeking legal action to postpone the elections by a week (as both areas have been placed under a red "Don't move" warning for tomorrow
