Yeah the electoral consequences in the North of Berlusconi and Bossi having a big fall out were... er... chaotic. Other things to note would be more order wrt the Right in the South and the SVP sort of half joining Prodi's electoral alliance.

The party of Padania doesn't seem to have won any constituencies where the Po actually flows through...

Interesting how the Lega did better further west in Lombardy (Bergamo, Brescia etc), compared to the usual Varese etc base when they first stood as a unified party in 1992, and more typically since.

Although their national percentage barely altered on 1994 there were some small but noticeable shifts in support patterns - including (though not limited to) winning back some support in parts of the north (striking improvement in the Milan metropolitan area for instance) while losing votes to the Communist Refoundation Party in certain places - notably Umbria and suburban Turin.

The alliance of Milan and Palermo. As for the PDS I've used the same scale as 1994 because the vote total was so similar. But in this case there were huge changes in geography. In part this was because this time Forza Italia didn't fuck up the paperwork in Puglia - which, as you'll note, was one of their strongest regions! But there were other shifts. Substantial falls in support in much of Northern Italy, yet increases in central Milan. A collapse in support in and around Rome, but significant increases around Naples.

The 'reformed' fascists lost the votes in Puglia that came from Forza Italia cocking up their paperwork two years earlier, but more than made up for it elsewhere. This was their strongest ever performance in a General Election.

This was the League's best result in a General Election... at least until the one presently going on. They ran on their own after falling out with Berlusconi. An interesting map - they absolutely crushed it in much of the rural North but actually lost substantial support in e.g. Milan.
