yes sorry about that- clearly I had repeated the Labour figures in error- which would have been similar but not identical. Thanks for the correction -I have altered the main post.

A quick note on the 2017 boundary changes:
(1) Birchington and Rural is a merger of the pre-2017 divisions of Birchington and Villages, and Margate West.
(2) Wyre Rural Central is the successor to the pre-2017 Wyreside division, which was a lot more coherent than the current division. Any electoral unit whose major component is Knott End has no business being called Wyre Rural Central.

Normally we would get some results by now, or at least some news about turnout.

As there are two pairs of contiguous elections, I would expect the results to be considerably delayed due to separation of ballot papers and so on - that is, if the counts are taking place tonight at all.

I've not seen anything to confirm counts are taking place tonight. I think the last Thanet byelection counted during Friday, and that Lancashire county division is quite extensive.

Good result for Labour there in a very traditionally Conservative part of a Labour held marginal

Good result for Labour there in a very traditionally Conservative part of a Labour held marginal Would not disagree with that comment but helped by a combination of a death wish on the part of Lancashire Tories and the lack of any alternative to the Big Two. In the circumstances it is remarkable that people still vote Tory here , so very traditional Conservative indeed.

... the lack of any alternative to the Big Two. Astonishingly, there hasn't been a Liberal/Lib Dem candidate in Preesall since 1976! I'm sure someone will try to blame the Coalition years for this, of course.
