Setting this one up for two odd Wednesday by- elections -an extra Christmas treat for us hardened by-election watchers. Special treat for me as one is Exeter City Council - I was first involved in canvassing in a local election for Exeter City almost exactly 60 years ago.

I had already spotted the party called Something New and liked it, though no idea what they stood for apart from novelty. Was the KKK in the middle of UKIP deliberate or a Freudian slip? The results for the next two earlier elections were:2007:Con 609/592, LD 522/501, Lab 105 and 2003: LD685/623, Con 287/286.Lab 252/217, Green85 I'll leave you to make the changes on your original post- again, thanks a lot

I usually notice and correct that, but not with insomnia at half past 1 in the morning.

Andrew's previews for tomorrow's elections are already up. He seems to have missed these two out, though.

Around 1,900 ballot papers to count, compared to 3,028 in 2016.

The Britain Elects changes from 2016 are incorrect as there was a Liberal Democrat in 2016.

This should not have been a great surprise. There was a simultaneous election for a TC ward. In February this year, LD Ollie Purkiss won in the same ward, so it would have been reasonable to expect an LD win in at least the TC ward today. Also, in the May county election, LD Penny Rivers took the division that includes the Waverley division. With LD success at both CC and TC level for this area, this should have been predictable.
(I'm in Haslemere - next town down the line from Godalming).

This continues a recent pattern of LD gains in Southern counties, all on big swings: Nov 3 - Aldwick West, Arun (W Sussex) Nov 10 - Stubbington, Fareham (Hampshire) Dec 1 - Bridgemary North, Gosport (Hampshire) Dec 13 - Godalming C and Ockford, Waverley (Surrey)
Now waiting for actual vote totals. ,

The next Waverley general election is not until 2019, but local LD's will be working hard to increase that.

Looks like Lib dem campaigners getting their mojo back after the exhaustion of the General Election and poor local result just prior.
