Nine candidates approved for the presidential election on the 22th. There is a run-off three weeks later if no one receives a majority (which is unlikely).
Main candidates:
Incumbent president Borut Pahor (Social Democrats, but running as an Indie) Mayor of Kranj Marjan Šarec (independent, ex-comedian and political satirist, but running a 100% serious campaign) MP Ljudmila Novak (New Slovenia) MEP Romana Tomc (Slovenian Democratic Party)
Also-rans:
Minister of Education Maja Makovec Brenčič (Modern Centre Party) Mayor of Koper Boris Popovič (Slovenia is Ours) Suzana Lara Krause (Slovenian People's Party) Angelca Likovič (Voice for Children and Families) Andrej Šiško (Zedinjena Slovenja)
Support in a 2/10 poll:
Borut Pahor 35% Marjan Šarec 23% Romana Tomc 10% Ljudmila Novak 10%
Maja Makovec Brenčič 2% Mayor of Koper mayor Boris Popovič 1% Suzana Lara Krause 1% Angelca Likovič 1% Andrej Šiško 1%
Undecided 16%

The third election going on today and overshadowed by much bigger Japan and Argentina. It will likely result in a run-off between incumbent Borut Pahor and small town mayor Marjan Šarec. A comedian and satirist turned serious politician. Pahor looks stuck at around 40% and if he drops lower the run-off might become competitive.

Turnout currently set at 41.55%
Always a bit sad with less than 50% turnout.
EDIT: 43.57% with 99.9% counted.

In my heart, I wish that Austria, Slovenia and Trieste had been made into a bilingual state in the aftermath of WW1.

In my heart, I wish that Austria, Slovenia and Trieste had been made into a bilingual state in the aftermath of WW1. Along with South Tyrol, of course (which I guess would never have been separated from Austria in the first place in this idealised scenario). I find it difficult to lament low turnout where a ceremonial President is being elected directly. That must be one of the least important types of election.

Can Pahor please lose? Please? Do you have a Slovenian background or connection? Mostly just a semi-long time observer with very, very occasional strong opinions and some alcohol in my system.

Šarec is fairly close to Pahor in the three latest polls, but Pahor still has a clear lead and is heavily favoured to pull this off.
Mediana 10/11 Pahor 48.6% Šarec 44.5% Undecided 6.9%
Delo 10/11 Pahor 56.3% Šarec 43.7%
Dnevnik 9/11 Pahor 53.0% Šarec 47.0%

With 99.99% of precincts counted.
Borut Pahor 52.93% Marjan Šarec 47.07%
So Pahor did get reelected, but with a rather low margin.
