"i've never seen a straight banana"......
Quite an appropriate song given Edward’s (alleged) sexual preferences! I didn't think there was any doubt as to those!

What I didn't know or had failed to remember was that he grew the moustache at least in part to cover up the scarring he got when his plane was shot down at Arnhem.

Jimmy Edwards did cut quite a figure when campaigning in Paddington North in the 1964 General Election on horseback in full hunting regalia.
TWTWTW did a superb taking with a rendition of ‘Pretty Jimmy Edwards of Paddington Green’ which ended with the killer line:
‘But the people of Paddington were not that bloody green’.
This was almost as amusing as Ted Dexter trying to unseat Jim Callaghan in Cardiff South East at the same election.

This was almost as amusing as Ted Dexter trying to unseat Jim Callaghan in Cardiff South East at the same election. I remember reading Douglas Bader's autobiography. The Tories had lined up a then-safe seat for him in Blackpool, but had failed to inform him and wasnt actuallyva member of the Conservative party. He told them that he didn't support any one party anyway and that he'd vote for whatever he believed in whether it came from the Tories or Labour. The idea wasn't mentioned again.... As for Dexter..... Ted Dexter and the chequered past of cricketers in the world of politics www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/jun/22/the-spin-ted-dexter-politics-eu-referendum-cricket?

Of note- Heather Anderson replaced Alyn Smith as an MEP for Scotland this week. And then wasn't an MEP anymore.

The last British MEP to be sworn in (prior to a hypothetical reunification) will get a footnote in some almanac. "Former MEP" is probably helpful on a CV, especially if she intends to run for public office again. "I was a public rep and didn't screw up within 3 days" (sadly) counts for something.

Mohammad Asghar Conservative MS(AM) for South Wales East has died.
This will in all probability lead to a return to the Senedd of Laura Ann Jones who served as an AM from 2003-2007.

A real Vicar of Bray who was elected as a local councillor for Labour (having previously been a Tory member for 20 years), defected to Plaid Cymru, eventually elected AM for them, then defected back to his original home. The kind of electoral career that drove the late marksenior and my less celebrated self to distraction.

Mr Lockhart, who had been the convener of the Scottish Parliament’s Net Zero, Energy and Transport committee until the recess, Roz McCall will take her seat at Holyrood to replace Mr Lockhart after his departure from the role after six years to take up a business role working in net zero. Not in the least troughing the public trough. Oh no. Not a parasite in any meaningful sense My post was rotten anyway
