Easy to be subject to mood. A month ago the Blue Team was triumphalist and talking in terms of multiple seat capture. Now many act as if they have been rejected by the nation with a massive vote loss and crash in the share of the vote. That is not at all what happened. There has been a minor loss of seats because of a large surge of voters in certain university affected and certain sorts of urban area. In many areas we did very well. In fact without that late surge which may well not reoccur we would have the big majority. This was a reverse because of an event not a core meltdown in support.
In 1997 we lost a massive amount of vote and vote share. This time we gained vote and vote share. The electorate has not changed at all in my opinion. It is merely that one sector that is usually more moribund was enticed out to play by the cheap offer of goodies and by an old man ramping up anti-middle class bile and commie nostrums. it is fairly easy to combat all this tripe if we hold our nerve and ditch the present leadership.
The Blue Team are being too defeatist by far. We did still win this election but without an outright majority. We got more votes. We won. More people supported our view and voted for our vision such as it was. When this surge dissipates we are home and dry.
I voted 2022 0r Later. Possibly never?
Stop all acting as if they won. They were beaten AGAIN!

They were beaten AGAIN! They didn't win, but, they didn't loose either. They won more seats, more votes, they won the campaign on the streets and Corby has improved and impressed the voters with the way he went out and campaigned with style and determination to prove the critics wrong (which he has). The Tories on the other hand whilst remaining the largest party by a relatively small margin, lost votes, lost seats, lost the campaign and have lost the moral authority to govern and even more so now with their Faustian pact with the devil. So it not a simple question of seats.

Statistics prove that despite expecting the UKIP vote would go overwhelmingly to them it didn't. They didn't get the youth vote either. And of course the swing to Labour was greater than the Tory swing.

When they win an election. At present they have no democratic right to rule this country. Lets face it they were a very poor second on Thursday, 64 seats short of a majority compared to 8 by the Tories. Jeremy Corbyn says he is going to oppose the Queens speech, Which is an insult to the Queen and gutter politics at its very worst. Dangling a carrot from the sky of no tuition fees to first time voters, most who don't know the meaning of politics let alone vote in an election. Offer something for nothing even though it is another of Labours pie in the sky unaffordable ideas will always get you votes. These young voters won't remember Tony Blair and his New Labour with similar give away's. Look where that got us, A BANKRUPT COUNTRY.

You don't think that the Opposition should oppose government policy? I should disfranchise everyone under seventy, then you might win - sometimes - given enough gaga people who can be driven to vote by your stormtroopers!

As I mentioned earlier, for being winners, Tories are acting like losers - and very sore losers at that. It's quite humourous really. It's especially funny because the likes of carlton made all sorts of ridiculous predictions beforehand and I am loving that they were utterly, utterly wrong. I try to be non-partisan wherever possible, but my goodness most Tories on the internet are absolutely insufferable and I love seeing them crushed with disappointment.

I cant see it being 2018. I dont think the people would take kindly to bringing down the government in the middle of the brexit talks.
2022 for me. Hopefully Corbyn is gone by then, or I am.

My gut tells me sooner than we think. I can't see another election taking place before May or June 2022. Neither the Tories nor the DUP want one.

Once they get past this first Queens Speech, nothing will become a vote of confidence other than a motion as specified in the FTPA. Not losing a Queens Speech, not loosing a budget.

I have heard there was a plan to ditch the FTPA, though I don't know if that will still go ahead.

Well their "authority to govern Scotland" is based on last year's Holyrood result I would have thought (they took nearly 50% of the vote then)

Well their "authority to govern Scotland" is based on last year's Holyrood result I would have thought (they took nearly 50% of the vote then) They actually only got 41.7% of the list vote, which is what cost them their majority... but yeah, if you understand and accept devolution, then you realise that the 2016 result has to be the basis on which the SNP can continue to govern Scotland. Unfortunately reserved and devolved policy areas still get conflated far too much at both Westminster and Holyrood elections. The parties and candidates are as complicit in this as the media. That said, what Sturgeon clearly does not have is a mandate for a second independence referendum.

Leaving aside the likely loss of Belfast South why on earth would they give up the power and influence that they have just gained.
