I have again being asked to co-edit the above. As before, one of my tasks will be to compile a regional survey of results. If anyone on here would like to help me, by drawing my attention to interesting features of the results in a region, or working out regional party swings, I would be very grateful. My gratitude would however, be the main reward! I am not being paid anything myself, and the most I could offer even for substantial help would be a name check, if I can get them in, and possibly a free book from my own allocation. In these circumstances, I am not expecting to be knocked over in a stampede. But anyone willing and able, do please send me a message. The book has to be completed by the end of this month, so time is very short. The regions included last time were: Scotland South West England South East England London East of England East Midlands West Midlands North West England North East England Yorkshire and Humberside Wales Northern Ireland
Thank you again if anyone has any interest in the above.

Right, I've had one splendid offer of help so far (covering the East of England) - any others most gratefully entertained!

All help welcome! I have about a week at most to write a survey of all regions - about 1,000 words per region as above. I do not believe I shall be able to pick up all the interesting nuances on my own. Thank you to those who have contacted me by PM today. This is very generous, because as I said I cannot promise any tangible reward ... Robert

Thanks again to all those who have been flooding forward! I should have contacted everyone by PM.
If anyone else wishes to join in, the following regions have not been mentioned yet: West Midlands, East Midlands, Yorkshire/Humber, North West, Scotland.
Also, please be aware that if you have any views on a region someone else has volunteered for, I'm still interested. The thing that must be reiterated is that you are all doing it out of the goodness of your hearts (with the possibility of a namecheck if you want and I can wangle it, and maybe an author's copy - though I only get about four of those!).
The enthusiasm says a lot, in my view, for the very best aspects of this forum.

I can keep an eye on Scotland. Just let me know what sorts of things you are looking for.

I'll feed back on the north-west, assuming there are any interesting trends this year!

Once again, an impressive response! Many thanks to everyone - I have sent messages to all, I hope. Let me know if you need any more information. Only the two Midlands regions have not elicited volunteers. As the weight of polling suggests the result might be rather similar to that of 2015, I do hope folks will help me find enough to say ... (However, I myself have exceptionally good reason not to 'believe' the pre-election polls, so I still think there will be quite a few surprises!)

I have been a fan of your input to a series of books and warmly endorse your project and await publication with great interest. I am a tenacious reviewer of small detail and usually make vast lists of errors from the Times House of Commons and many notes of interest out of the Nuffield studies. Best of luck. The time scale is very short for having a patient trawl through all the information, but if I come across anything I think of interest I shall pass it on as discovered.

All contributions will be very welcome. I should reassert that as I bear the responsibility as an editor of this publication, I hope you will all be understanding if may use most, some or none of the material you folks will kindly be providing. This would however in no way reflect on the quality of the assistance and on my equal and sincere gratitude.
I also should notify that like so many others I shall be wrapped up with a) actually watching the results b) recovering from a) and thus may not be available to reply or acknowledge communications before Friday evening or Saturday.
May everyone have an enjoyable and enlightening time over the next 36 hours or so!

Thank you again to all who have kindly volunteered and are perhaps working feverishly on this at the moment! (And congratulations to Harry Hayfield, the first to send his really useful comments - though I don't want folks to feel under pressure or rush).
One other thing - I seem to recall someone compiled a list of the youngest MPs elected in 2015 and posted it on this forum, then kindly gave me permission to pinch it. (Was it David Boothroyd?) Has anyone done the same this time yet? (Apologies if it is elsewhere on this site)
Unless there are some very elderly newcomers, I think I'm OK for the list of oldest MPs, though perhaps I should extend the list to include those born in 1950 and 1951 ...

The oldest new MP is Vince Cable - a retread.
I did do a list of youngest MPs but I don't think it was immediately after the election - takes time as some of them are cagy about birthdates.

Just a progress report. With the invaluable help of the forum, I have written about 7,000 words on 6 regions. 6 regions still to start, I think most of the volunteers on here have been contacted, but if in doubt, do let me have what you've got whenever you can! Thanks again to all. Robert

Ben Lake (Plaid, Ceredigion) is 24 and I think (dependent on how old Mhairi Black is now) could be the new Baby of the House
