Re the above election in Torrington, the Liberal Democrat was elected top of the poll, the next candidate elected was No Description, and Labour won the 3rd seat. The other 2 Labour candidates were very narrowly ahead of the remaining Lib Dems. Not bad for Labour in Torrington. There were no Tory candidates as such. Fits in with the ElectoralCalculus suggestion that Labour polled well in the ward covering this town. The question of whether Labour has boots on the ground to capitalise on the situation is the question and it seems, on this occasion, they did. Interesting times.

Stroud, Trinity ward - Lib Dem gain from Labour Lib Dem - 262 Labour - 186 Steve Dechan is the new councillor As far as I can tell, it's the first time we have put up a candidate for Stroud Town Council, so not a bad start. Though I reckon the Greens would have walked it if they'd had a candidate, they seem to have been caught on the hop by the timing of the by-election and were encouraging their voters to vote LD.

In addition to that, there is also a by-election to the Abergele Town Council, Gele Ward, occuring a week later. Notice of ElectionStatement of Persons NominatedI'm unsure what exactly the details behind the Abergele vacancy are, but I do know that the Llandudno vacancy is due to the death of an independent member.

Interesting byelection in my old ward last night - Congleton TC, Congleton West ward. Same boundaries as the Cheshire East unitary ward which is basically safe Conservative.
Maurice Anthony Walker (Conservative Party Candidate) 704 (32.9%; +0.7%) Suzy Firkin (Liberal Democrats) 664 (31.1%; +12.4%) Llew Hughes (Labour Party) 571 (26.8%; +6.0%) John Saville Crowther (no description) 196 (9.2%)
Crowther had been the local UKIP activist.

The Stretton result was a Lib Dem hold - caused by the death of David Inman (Lib Dem).
Stretton ward continues to be represented by 2 Lib Dems and 2 Conservatives on Burbage Parish Council.
