Medway Unitary Council has commenced a community governance review, with a view to establishing a town council for Rochester, following receipt of a valid petition of 1623 signatures to this effect. The review area is approximately equal to the Rochester half of the pre-1974 Rochester City Council (the other half was Strood, not included in this review). Rochester-upon-Medway kept its city status from 1974 onwards, but Medway Unitary famously omitted to apply for transfer of city status to the new unitary, when Rochester-upon-Medway merged with Gillingham in 1996 and the city status was lost. democracy.medway.gov.uk/mgconvert2pdf.aspx?id=34406

^ A big win for Labour and a boost for Corbyn's winning strategy, as they guarantee at least one gain on Wivenhoe Town Council due to a lack of other candidates.

Dirty doings in Clowne (Bolsover District, Derbyshire), concerning a PC election due 16th February. It's alleged that to defeat an independent candidate, Labour have declined to nominate a candidate under their own colours, and instead are naming one of their own, but describing him as "independent". Local LibDems are angry. www.nedbd-libdems.com/news/clowne-parish-councillors-questioned/

Well done that man for standing without a political label.

This is a ludicrous criticism. In shire districts you quite often find the same person standing simultaneously as a Conservative for the district council and as an Independent for the parish council.

agree, it may piss me off that people with clear party allegiance describe themselves as independent, but it happens all the time.
My criticism would not be that it was some sort of dirty trick, simply that it was dishonest
