Quick quiz (just for fun) - How many Members of Parliament sat in every Parliament from 1918-1945?
- Of those, how many sat for the entire length of the Parliaments from the election in 1918 to the dissolution in 1945 (hint - the number is fairly small)?
Some of you will know the definitive answer, but please don't spoil it for those that wish to play for fun. I shall post the answer in a couple of days.

There were 69 Members of Parliament who sat in every Parliament between 1918-1945. Examples include David Lloyd-George, Stanley Baldwin and Nancy Astor.
Of those, 15 sat during the entire period from the election held in 1918 to the dissolution in 1945:
1. William Allen - Unionist - Armagh - stood in 1945 and was successful - died in 1947 2. Leo Amery - Birmingham Sparkbrook - Con - stood in 1945 but lost his seat to Percy Shurmer. Had been MP since 1911 3. Thomas Cape - Workington - Lab - retired at 1945 GE and died in 1947 4. George Courthope - Rye - Con - retired at 1945 GE and went to the House of Lords 5. William Davison - Con - Kensington South - stood and won in 1945 but almost immediate went to HoL. 6. Charles Edwards - Bedwellty - Lab - held seat until 1950 when retiring - died in 1954 7. Douglas Hacking - Con - Chorley - retired at 1945 election and went to HoL 8. Henry Haydn Jones - Lib - Merioneth - MP from Jan 1910 until retiring at 1945 GE 9. Oliver Locker-Lampson - Con - MP from Jan 1910 until retiring in 1945. Ramsey (Jan 1910-1918); Huntingdonshire (1918-1922) and Birmingham Handsworth (1922-1945); 10. Neil MacLean - Lab - Glasgow Govan - MP from 1918-1950 when he retired. 11. Hugh O'Neill - Unionist - Antrim - Was an MP from 1915-1952, ending as Father of the House. He then became Baron Rathcavan and sat in the House of Lords. Lived until 1982 dying at the age of 99. 12. Assheton Pownall - Con - Lewisham East - stood in 1945 election and was defeated by Herbert Morrison, the sitting MP for Hackney South and recently Home Secretary in a rare conquest between two sitting MPs. 13. Will Thorne - Plaistow - Lab - Had sat since 1906 and retired at the GE in 1945 aged 87. 14. Lambert Ward - Con - Hull North West - defeated by Lab candidate Kim Mackay in 1945 15. The Earl Winterton (Edward Turnour) - Con - Horsham & Worthing - first elected for Horsham in 1904 at age of 21 and pipped Will Thorne to being Father of the House upon Lloyd George's retirement in 1945. Stood in 1945 and 1950 and retired at the 1951 election, entering the Lords in 1952. Died in 1962. A rare example of somebody who was both Baby and Father of the House during their tenure.
