I have read it, and makes Labour, for me, just everything wrong. Local people have no say.

That is one way to read it, another is political ambition is thwarted and she has thrown a temper tantrum. Maybe it's both.

I think it's fine to realise what Labour has become. Political ambition should be about the local party. Otherwise, it's a sham.

As is all too common, her resignation statement was full of "I...I...me...me".
Some people may be getting a reality check next month on how important they actually are.

Labour aren't the party we used to know. The NEC effectively controlled by the right. In my view only candidates should be decided by local party members.

I agree there should be more local involvement as a rule, but both in 2017 and 2019 loads of Labour candidates were effectively imposed. And you know who was leader then.

It was far,far worse, though. Loads? - not many. But now, it's either a shortlist (shouldn't be) or just a candidate decided by the NEC and the right wing.

Internal democracy is a bit of an alien concept to Labour Party culture, and those who have advocated for it and meant it have always been a small minority. Usually dominant has been the cult of The Rules (always rather loosely worded and subject to a great deal of interpretive freedom) which derives ultimately from the pit and the docks, and when that approach has been challenged it has been by people who support essentially Leninist approaches. Things have never been any other way and we all know this to be true, at least if we're being honest with ourselves.

Not expecting any change here, but Bromsgrove is slowly changing as a seat and might be worth watching in a couple of elections.

No doubt you would have been cheering Paul McCormick and Julian Lewis (both right-wing Conservatives) when they inflitrated the Newham North East Labour Party in 1977 to ensure that Reg Prentice was not deselected.

Nothing to do with me. I was 15 then....
