St Mary's: 1 Lab, 1 Con, 1 Ind The ex-Tory actually significantly underperformed the other 2 Labour candidates, despite doing well last year as an independent. He was disadvantaged by the alphabet, but still very surprising.

Are the three elected in Tynemouth all incumbent councillors? That would certainly help explain the vote disparities if so.

New York & Murton - 3 Con As a local, I don't understand this very comfortable win at all. This is a slap bang average Newcastle overspill area (except Murton village, which is separate from the conurbation, but small).

No. I believe the Tory elected, Lewis Bartoli, was a popular incumbent but the two Labour ones are new. Tynemouth was abandoned as unwinnable. The new Labour councillors are the sister of the one who stood down, who moved to Monkseaton, and a man formerly involved in Renew who stood for that party in Tynemouth back in 2018 and got a hundred votes. Anyway, I've never seen it spelt 'popular incumbent'...
