Jane Mudd selected as Labour candidate. I guess it means Jeff Cuthbert is retiring (as he is 75 years old, it is not a shock). Mudd is the Leader of Newport City Council.

GWENT 2021
2021 PARO – Blaenau Gwent
Because the PCC elections in Wales coincided with the Senedd elections, the local results were announced by constituency, rather than by district
I have restated the results below to achieve the best fit by district. The Monmouthshire figures include 4 Torfaen wards and exclude 8 wards in Newport West constituency. The Newport figures include the 8 Monmouthshire wards. The Torfaen figures exclude the 4 wards in Monmouthshire.

Gwent turnout 15.63%. Bad, but not as low as 2012 when it was just 13.97%.

It’s only PCC but Gwent was one of the Tories better PCC results, possibly the best. A slight swing from Lab to Con since 2021. And noticeable that whilst Monmouthshire was carried by the Tories, getting over 30% and only trailing by 8 and 12% respectively in Newport & Torfaen were fairly strong results for the Conservatives in the context of a bad night.
