This will be the last election on the current boundaries.
Current council is: 37 Labour (though one of them is still listed as suspended on the council website) 15 Conservative 2 Green
The Conservatives are defending 6 (Bablake, Cheylesmore, Sherbourne, Wainbody, Westwood, Woodlands), Labour are defending 12, and the Greens are not defending any. Split wards are Cheylesmore (2C, 1L), Sherbourne (2C, 1L), Westood (2C, 1L), and Holbrook (2G, 1L)
It is possible that Earlsdon will be a double-header. Whilst none of the seats are currently vacant, Becky Gittins, who was re-elected this year, has been selected as the Labour candidate for a winnable Welsh constituency.

Interesting. Coventry City Council seems to have a history of producing successful MP's. Kevin Foster comes to mind.
Seems that Labour will be on the attack this time around with two potential gains for them, and of course a likely loss to the greens. An outside chance of a Conservative gain in Whoberley, but perhaps not in this political climate.

To save us having to open 18 separate SOPNs, could you tell us which wards the Britain First and WEP candidates are standing in please?

We've just been told that the poll in Radford will be postponed due to the death of a candidate. I haven't had it confirmed which candidate, though.

Poor Coventry, it seems that no one cares about it.
Tories held Cheylesmore, Wainbody and Woodlands.
Lab gained Bablake, Sherbourne and Westwood.
The Britain First candidate may have played a decisive role in Bablake polling 379 votes (9%) while the Labour majority over the Tories was just 84.

Funny how things go. If more people had noticed then they might have realized that today's big story, such as it was, was a plausible outcome.

The Greens didn't do well in May 2024 (Holbrook ward) - why? One of the biggest factors was people turning out just for the mayoral, and then voting Labour for both contests.

Are you suggesting that the West Midlands Metro Mayor contest was a bigger deal than Coventry City Council? It would never have been seen like that in my time in Coventry. The, then equivalent, West Midlands County Council was always seen as an irrelevance and even as an impediment. In may time on the Council, and in particular, my year as deputy chair of Transportation and Highways, I had more aggravation from the Labour-controlled West Midlands County than from the Tory Government.

Maybe not a bigger deal than the council. But it does raise turnout compared with other years in the cycle. And that increased turnout is clearly skewed in the direction of Labour and the Conservatives.
