Given the recent by-election and the prominence Reform has given to its result here, might have expected more candidates.

I think the simple answer is that similar to UKIP, Reform members are far more interested in national politics than local politics. Also, they may not have many members with experience of running local campaigns. The UKIP candidate who stood against me in 2016's campaign was just him and his friends driving around with a megaphone. He was a lovely guy but admitted to me he didn't know how to run a local campaign.

Sorry wasn't trying to contradict anything, just a statement of facts. I agree, I wouldve though they would field more candidates, especially given that UKIP came third in the pop vote here in 2014,15,16,18 and 19

I agree, I wouldve though they would field more candidates, especially given that UKIP came third in the pop vote here in 2014,15,16,18 and 19 UKIPs ability to field candidates was not necessarily that linked to the councils or wards where they actually got the most votes. As others have said, it was often very dependent on having a couple of decent activists. Given Reform are no UKIP (yet), it’s not too surprising that they lack many candidates even in their on paper strongest areas.

I don’t think I was alone in being surprised at how big the swing was last time out. Will be watching out for this result on election night.
