The LDs seem to have avoided standing against the ERA and the WSGI for quite some time, though whether that's friendliness or electoral convenience, I'm not sure (I doubt it's lack of candidates). There was a similar avoidance of the Walton Society for some time until 2021, when the LDs started standing in Walton Central and have now won one of the seats.

I understand the Lib Dems are going to be standing in Esher this time. It will be an interesting three way battle in that ward. Will the Tories hold any seats in Elmbridge? I suspect not.

A few observations. The Ind in Claygate is the former LD Cllr (2013-21) for the ward who served as Deputy Leader of EBC. It is unlikely a coincidence she’s chosen to stand against the incumbent Leader Bruce McDonald.
Walton’s last two remaining Councillors are both re-standing elsewhere after their wards swung heavily to the LDs in 2022 & 2023. John Cope (Walton South and their parliamentary candidate) is standing in Oatlands & Burwood Park (which still votes Cons, but not guaranteed anymore); Lewis Brown (Walton North) is moving to Hersham Village (also a LD gain the last two years, but only by double-digit margins).
It’s the first time in Elmbridge history the RAs have not stood in Molesey East. The last time the LDs stood in Esher was in 2015, when they got under 5% of the vote.

It seems Tories shifting seats is a theme across various Council elections in Surrey as we've also seen it in Tandridge and in Reigate & Banstead I suspect Hersham Village will elect a Councillor for us and the Tories may struggle in Oatlands and Burwood Park

For the purposes of approximating total local election votes across certain constituencies, I have allocated the wards here as follows -
Esher & Walton: Claygate, Esher, Hersham Village, Hinchley Wood & Weston Green, Long Ditton, Molesey East, Molesey West, Oatlands & Burwood Park, Thames Ditton, Walton Central, Walton North, Walton South
Runnymede & Weybridge: Cobham & Downside, Oxshott & Stoke D'Abernon, Weybridge Riverside, Weybridge St George's Hill

I understand the council leader Bruce McDermott has lost his Claygate seat to the independent, who is a former Lib Dem councillor. I understand a big part of this is down to the fact that he tried to open an M&S food shop in Claygate, which went down badly with the residents. This was tipped to happen, but quite odd when the Lib Dems are likely to get an outright majority on the council.

Still no results released officially. Perhaps they are waiting until all are in then will publish them all at once. They didn't do that last year. I find it irritating. Edit. I take that back. They have started to appear mygov.elmbridge.gov.uk/mgElectionResults.aspx?ID=51&RPID=529508490Cobham is a C hold compared to LD gains of the other two in the ward. (It will no longer be in the Esher & Walton top target constituency, though). It does however make it less likely the LD will get an overall majority on the council if the rumour about Claygate is true.

So, the council stays hung albeit with the Lib Dems two seats short of a majority. I think the Lib Dems will be disappointed with that. I was pretty certain they would repeat last year’s performance. Tories have done better than last year.

I predicted the Lib Dems would gain control of Brentwood, Elmbridge, Stockport and Wokingham and they've achieved none of these. I don't think they will gain any councils (Dorset is currently in the balance but seems unlikely) - where will Ed Balls go this year to perform his juvenile blue wall stunt?
