It looks mostly standstill. It seems all the parties have reached the limit of their support. Anybody increasing is going to have to break into another ward and build up from a 10% vote. I’m sure after a couple of years of Labour in government a shake up of some form will present itself.

I make that
Labour 15 Liberal Democrats 7 Greens 6 Independent 1
Meaning Labour won exactly half the wards in the city, as they won the doube vacancy.
EDIT: Turnout this year was 31.87 %

Some interesting results here, with three wards deserting the party they’d stuck with since the current ward pattern came in in 2004.
Labour will be reasonably happy, with the gains in Graves Park, Stocksbridge & Upper Don and Walkley, comfortable holds in C & C and Mosborough and no threat from the defectors. The big downer was losing Darnall, but given results elsewhere this wasn’t a big surprise to me in the end, even though it’s the first Independent win in Sheffield since 1967.
The Lib Dems I think will be disappointed, losing Ecclesall and Graves Park for the first time and falling back from last year in many wards. Their poor result in C & C wasn’t because they didn’t try —the leaflet campaign was as intense as ever — but of course Labour fought it hard too and incumbency does seem to be a help. (Though it wasn’t in Ecclesall where a 30 year incumbent lost.) it clearly could have been worse, though.
The Greens improved considerably on last year, losing Walkley but holding Nether Edge & Sharrow and making that breakthrough in Ecclesall. I think they’ll be pretty happy, and next year have a couple of targets for gains.
The Tory defeat in S & UD felt fairly inevitable, but I suppose they are still clearly second.
Others, except for the Darnall independent, didn’t make much impression.
