It was the areas subject to Danelaw which generally had Wapentakes, so Lancashire has Hundreds. Also note that in Kent, the Hundreds are grouped into five Lathes. And some counties have their own names: Cumberland: Wards Durham: Wards Northumberland: Wards Sussex: Rapes Westmorland: Wards There are also sokes, although in practice that of Peterborough which really operated separately from the rest of the county. In the space of a decade (1964-74) it was part of Northamptonshire, then Huntingdonshire and finally Cambridgeshire. Is there anywhere else like this in the UK?

I don't think anywhere else within that timeframe as Huntingdon & Peterborough was the only new county created in the 60s (there were various new or expanded county boroughs which were shortlived, such as Teeside) Over a much longer period, Poyle has moved from Middlesex to Surrey (in 1964) and subsequently (1995) to the ceremonial county of Berkshire as part of Slough. It's fair to say that Poyle is probably a slightly less substantial and well known place than Peterborough

There are also a few areas that moved from Middlesex to Greater London to Hertfordshire (parts of Elstree and Bushey Heath for example)
