Current Council: Lab 24; Grn 24; Con 14; LD 5; Knowle Community Party 2; 1 vacancy (So victory would make either Labour or the Greens the largest party, but with Labour holding the mayoralty this makes little practical difference).

Keli Watts was the top Labour candidate in 2021 and is a former councillor for William Knib ward on the old Kettering council which is contained in this ward. Stephen Silver also stood for the Lib Dems here in 2021.
Current Council: Con 56; Lab 14; Grn 3; Ind 2; LD 1; 2 vacancies
TORFAEN UA; Llantarnam (Ind resigned) Candidates: BOLTON, David (Labour) COOK, Miles Andrew (Liberal Democrats) DAVIES, Philip (Green) O’CONNELL, Jason (Independent) SENIOR, Stephen John (Conservative) WOOLFALL JONES, Matthew (Plaid Cymru)
2022: Ind 1081, 996, 950; Lab 667, 550, 481; PC 432; Grn 268

I think North Northamptonshire (Northall) must end all discussion about where 'the North' starts. It starts HERE.

Sat in a pub in a pub in Appleby where a few, particularly drunk, locals may wish to disagree. Ooh, which pub? Charming little town Crown and Cushion - Hare and Hounds tonight. The Golden Ball is closed, as is the King's Head. The Crown only ooens for the Fair. The Royal Oak is still trading. A town like Appleby needs to be marketed better as it is an absolute gem of a place.

I have an ancestor with the surname Appleby and have always hankered to pass through the town and have a look around, but whenever I've been in the area I've been on a different route, either the A65 of the M6.

Think it was the Hare and Hounds

In my University years I spent a lot of time with the Bill Knibb society which was a Baptist society of course, even though I was not a Baptist. But in those days Eileen was. I have thought further about this and realised this week's elections are set in places of great significance to me personally. I did (1959)propose to Eileen(successfully!) when I was on a visit to Bristol when part of a William Knibb university society delegation to Bristol - one of our former members had just been appointed as a minister there, and then after the formalities we had a little free time on our own! And the proposal was on College Green, in front of the Council House, as it was then known, and I've just checked the ward map, and yes College Green is inside Hotwells and Harbourside ward. I have all sorts of memories of that area ranging from visiting the wartime British Restaurant within the Council House(1944), to my Dad' s big memorial service at the Cathedral, on the other side of College Green,(1973).
