I fear he would have won, and it would have been another nasty campaign from him (even if not exactly the same as the one he pursued against Khan)

If Labour had lost the Mayoralty, would Corbyn have been challenged sooner? Not with the Brexit referendum only a few weeks away. Labour MPs held a vote of no confidence in Corbyn shortly after the referendum and just seven weeks after the Mayoralty. The time frame here was so tight a few weeks either way wouldn’t have made a jot of difference. |

Merton and Wandsworth seems to be a bellwether for these elections, so the son of a Tooting bus driver was always likely to get over the line. Abbott would still have won IMHO, and prove an invaluable ally for Corbyn against Smith and Eagle's chicken coup.
