In any event, there must be a reasonable chance of these vacancies remaining unfilled...

The 6 month rule does apply when a council is being abolished. Well it did when the Dorset councils were scrapped this year at any rate.

In any event, there must be a reasonable chance of these vacancies remaining unfilled... Well, we have some progress on this. The draft Northamptonshire (Structural Changes) Order 2019 was laid before Parliament on Monday and needs approval by both Houses.of Parliament before being made. (Whether this will happen before dissolution isn't clear.) Once made the Order will cancel the 2020 local elections in Northamptonshire and provide that the county and district councils are abolished on 1 April 2021, with the six-month rule kicking in on 1 October 2020. Until that order is made there are elections scheduled for the Northamptonshire district councils in May 2020, and the six-month rule will apply in advance of those elections in the usual way.

Will any get called for December 12th? Both Exeter and Islington have already indicated they are likely to be on 12 December, and I would think most of the others. Slightly too early to call them for 12 December at the moment.

I assume we might finally get the Hounslow ones on Dec 12th!
It’s a bit unfortunate timing wise that Rhondda has been called for December 5th
The Wiltshire by election on Nov 28th is another straight Con/ Lib Dem fight like the one this month in the West Wiltshire area.

Michael Smith has resigned as Conservative councillor for Overton ward, Lancaster council - unable to continue in his role due to hearing loss. Chris Whitehouse has resigned as Conservative councillor for Newport West division, Isle of Wight council - moving away from the island.

Absolutely devastating for us locally. To lose Nell to ill health, to have a nasty deselection, for huge figures - Paul and Molly - to go so suddenly. It’s all really sad and depressing and you can feel it in the mood 😕
