Will there not be an appointment rather than a by-election here?

Will there not be an appointment rather than a by-election here? Laverty was an independent councillor, so he gets to file a list of substitutes with (I think) the Chief Electoral Officer. There will only be a by-election if none of the substitutes are willing or able to serve.

What the billy oh is happening to Powys? They were only elected two and half years ago and yet they've had more by-elections in that timeframe than Ceredigion has had in its entire existence (I am aware of Ceredigion having at least four by-elections since 1995 and I am sure that this is Powys' fifth since 2017)

What's Croydon? You can't forget something that doesn't exist... Croydon is twinned with Arnhem, not Bielefeld.

Following yesterday's results, I wonder if one of our " statto's " could tell me in how many by-elections since May's locals, has the Labour vote share actually risen ? Some one may have a spread-sheet which would make it easier than me trawling through them all ... thanks in advance ..

Keith Edkins results pages are always worthwhile None in May www.gwydir.demon.co.uk/byelections/le1905.htm (not including 2nd May) One in June www.gwydir.demon.co.uk/byelections/le1906.htm (Isle of Wight, Whippingham & Osborne of which I have no recollection) Two out of Fourteen contests in July www.gwydir.demon.co.uk/byelections/le1907.htm One of which in Middlesborough, Park End and Beckfield (which demographically should be rock-solid for Labour) where they went up to 11.9% and the other a small increase in Hartlepool, Hart One in August www.gwydir.demon.co.uk/byelections/le1908.htm in Irthlingborough, the only significant increase but assisted by the narrowing of the field (as well as local factors) One in September www.gwydir.demon.co.uk/byelections/le1909.htm in Shropshire, Bishoips Castle but they had no candidate previously so they could not have failed to increase their vote share

With the exception of the by-elections held yesterday (which I have not been able to tally so far due to multiple caring duties) the last confirmed Labour vote share increase was in the Belle Vue by-election to Shropshire on April 26th 2019: Lab 603 (47% +4%), Lib Dem 403 (31% +3%), Con 152 (12% -12%), Green 65 (5% +1%), UKIP 58 (5% +5%)
