Some "404 Not Found" errors and blank pages suggests the BCE site is being eroded by linkrot and the passing of time. The zombie review is being erased from history.

Wasn't that the revised version? The original one was much worse.

Did anyone do any calculations as to what the result of 2010 would have been on the final recommendations of the Boundary Commission (or at least say how much of a 2010 seat was in a new seat)? The reason I ask is that I am tempted to run some of these polls that put UKIP at 20% through a simulator of the abandoned boundaries and wonder if the Conservatives have shot themselves in the foot over this?

I still can't quite believe that some of those constituencies were seriously proposed.

Had the 50 seats been done away with, how different would this last year of coalition be..?

Doktorb - when you next visit Preston Library why not take a peek at the aborted 1946 review (Lancs proposals published on October 18th)...some ideas for later submissions?
The proposed Blackrod division - The urban districts of Adlington, Aspull, Billinge & Winstanley, Blackrod, Horwich, Orrell, Skelmersdale, Standish with Langtree and Upholland and the rural district of Wigan. Blackburn North - St John's, St. Luke's, St Mark's, St Mary's, St Michael's, St Paul's, St Peter's, St Silas', St Stephen's & Trinity wards of Blackburn. Blackburn Darwen - Park, St. Andrew's, St Matthew's, St Thomas's wards of Blackburn plus Darwen and Turton.
Of course Preston North was to be named Preston Fulwood and the South constituency Preston Walton-le-Dale. They did not prove to be popular suggestions.

I don't think the 1946 review was aborted; it was revised in line with public comments, and eventually published as the Initial Report of the Boundary Commission for England (Cmd 7260).
After publication a series of additional changes were made, and some changes were also made during the passage of the Representation of the People Bill which at that point still contained the constituency definitions.

Weren't they instructed by Chuter Ede to 'go back to the drawing board' and interpret the rules to pay heed to natural boundaries/communities and not adhere slavishly to the electoral quota?
The West Riding had proposals for redrawn seats in 1946, 1947 (initial report) and 1948 (extra seats for certain boroughs). Perusing the Yorkshire Post and other local papers the '1946 seats' were unpopular across the spectrum (bar the Libs where I live). There does appear to have been some very radical redrawing from 1946 to 1947 in many areas - Launceston, Exmouth, Long Eaton, Channel Ports, Birmingham Bromford, East Riding of Yorkshire East and East Riding of Yorkshire West etc never saw the 'light of day' and probably no bad thing either.

I'd be very interested in having a look...
