No. Locally it was personal & I hear our experience is typical. Because the Labour Group wouldn't support a full council debate, instead signing an all-party statement condemning violence & calling for a ceasefire (which I organised) we have 'blood on our hands' & are 'complicit in genocide'. I don't know where you live, but that's not been my experience of the whole situation (which I take from the Lancs councils along the M65 corridor mostly). South West, around Bristol. Very bad blood. Also contacts/ friends in the Labour cllrs networks.

Ah - that's not neccesarily the case up here in Lancs - different circumstances too, I wouldn't have thought that many West Country administrations would be reliant on the pro-Palestine independents' votes.

Worthing Community Independents formed by Margaret Howard (Broadwater ward), Carl Walker (Selden ward) and Hilary Schan (Tarring ward), all of whom were elected as Labour.
Hilary Schan was Momentum Co-Chair.

I don't have any inside knowledge but if I hear anything I'll post

Isn’t Worthing one of the leftiest Labour groups in the country? The defectors themselves endorse the council and support its leader as a Labour candidate at the general election.

They made a point of endorsing the Worthing West candidate, but not Labour's hopeful in Shoreham/Worthing East.
Indeed, one of the defectors was kept off the shortlist for the latter.

Mothin Ali, newly elected Green councillor for Gipton & Harehills, Leeds MBC, has apparently been suspended from the party for his tweet talking about white supremacists etc.

They spent the past month campaigning hard to get the new Labour Councillors elected.

The decision to wait until after the local elections as not to damage the local election campaign is something I guess

They spent the past month campaigning hard to get the new Labour Councillors elected. Yes, that’s positive and they all emphasise their support for Beccy and their colleagues. It’s sad. Politics at this level is a voluntary activity. We all make choices about what our motivation is. To me their thoughts seem muddled, naive and seemingly at least unbalanced on the events of 7 October, divorced from the realities of both how our politics works (for better or worse) and the economic truths before us. But we’re all different and I’ve always favoured a broad church within the party. I do though object to the mischaracterisation involved in their statements.

They spent the past month campaigning hard to get the new Labour Councillors elected. do we actually know that they did? They may have taken the decision not to disrupt Labour's campaign but I will find out whether they played an active part in Labour's campaign.

If you can show me the evidence of this I will, to a great, if not total, degree, resile from my former opinion.
