I think carlton43 described himself as "right winger from the Blue Room" indicating he is a Tory right wing traditionalist who left the party in the Cameron era. I don't think that was saying you are on the right of Labour at all Completely correct. I know that he isn't and have never made any such suggestion. I merely empathised with him in being out of step with an element within, just as I had been myself, and then coming back at a difficult time and when matters were not (and are not) sorted to my satisfaction. It was not my intention of bluing his name by my comments and damaging his image. I know he is a long term real socialist.

And if that makes me a cunt, so be it, I'm a cunt. It makes you no such thing. It is, however, rather "brave", and it would not surprise me in the slightest if something occurs that causes you to reconsider your reconsideration. The element of the Labour party that caused your initial resignation seems rather reluctant to shut up and go away.

I am quite amused that Herdson joined the Tories in 1995, presumably on a "things can only get better" principle? Though this poster is somebody who first joined the Labour party in 1982, not massively different all told

I joined my party when its former leader was facing a trial for conspiracy to murder. A triumph of hope over circumstances. Useful trait in the Liberal Party.

I joined shortly after the 2015 wipe-out. I joined the Labour party the day after the 1983 election. Pretty good going, Finso. I was once accused of suffering from an irresistible attraction to lost causes, though that was in respect of supporting QPR rather than politics. You may have something similar.

It's usually at this point that I confess to supporting Sunderland AFC, Birmingham Moseley RFC and Yorkshire CCC. Not necessarily in that order.

I can beat the lot of you since I joined Labour in 1968 - the absolute nadir of post war fortunes. The only other person I have ever known who joined in that year was Ken Livingstone.....

Is that 51 years continuous membership? I will touch 45 next month having joined in the relative optimism before the October 1974 election.

I think I too joined up during a period of relative optimism, in December 2017 when we were still sort of riding a high from our better than expected performance in that year's general election...

My mum was born in Shepherds Bush, so I dodged a bullet there And ended up supporting Hull City. I was born in QPR territory (Paddington) and ended up supporting Tooting & Mitcham United. Think I win the shitness stakes.

I was born in Colwyn Bay, but - as a child - supported Leeds United. I think I top your stakes. Now I am a man I have put aside childish things. What's this got to do with defections?

And ended up supporting Hull City. Nobody said life was perfect! You and Alan Johnson ought to get along then, although I believe he still mainly supports QPR
