Why would there be a byelection?

Probably won't be, but less face it we all speculate on by elections whenever an elected official is implicated in any sort of scandal. Especially in a marginal ward like this.

This is getting really silly.
Councillor says something bloody stupid and gets suspended does not come anywhere near triggering a by-election despite the wishful thinking of some.

If I hadn't posted it, I expect someone else would of. Its sometimes fun to speculate, especially in August when there is little going on.

The witch-hunt continues. ... Yeah, what's the world coming to when you can't accuse Jews of being traitors to their country.

The witch-hunt continues. ... Yeah, what's the world coming to when you can't accuse Jews of being traitors to their country. Something the right of the party accuse the left of regularly! Generally I dislike the current fashion of complaining about people to the party authorities. I felt much the same about the shrieks to expel Godsliff even though I disagree with him strongly. Both local parties can decide what they wish to do. We don't need a purity committee to make the decision. After all we allow non-socialists and people who constantly oppose everything the party does to remain our MPs! Anyway I have made my views on this issue clear enough and I don't intend to change them.

Only incitement to violence is covered by hate speech laws, though, and even then it has to be quite extreme to be followed up. Anyway I'm not beginning yet another dull discussion on this topic. I won't be changing my view.

Predictable as ever. You could set your clock by Merseymike. How come you’re red again?

I don't want them to be expelled. ...I'm expecting more to leave of their own accord should they decide they don't want to be in a socialist party!

How come you’re red again? I have rejoined the Labour Party after considerable thought & conversations I've had with influential people. In the end, I couldn't honestly claim to be non-aligned. I hope not to find it necessary to leave again. I know it was a brief sojourn as non-aligned. I'm sure that at some level Boris Johnson's appointment as PM has forced my hand too. I understand that Barnaby as a right-winger from the Blue Room. I was always uncomfortable and unhappy when divorced from my party and have had long periods outside it. On balance being inside and associating with like-minded fellows in an attempt to 'make corrections', to influence choices and to change direction, is more rewarding and more useful than to be a 'principled outsider'! I must try to remember this when next tempted to go off into the wilderness.

And if that makes me a cunt, so be it, I'm a cunt. No - it means you've recognised it's your party as much as (or more than) it's Corbyn's, or Milne's, or Momentum's, or Merseymike's ...

Are you suggesting that @barnabymarder is on the right of the party? Other than on the obvious single issue I've always regarded him as a left winger. And even that issue isn't really left-right.
