Rabina Khan (THF then PATH) has defected to the Liberal Democrats. I'm not convinced this is good at all, considering the history of THF in particular. As I said before when a previous similar defection happened, I do hope that due diligence has been carried out before admission to membership. Quite. My understanding is that THLDs are far from stupid. She was also never shown to be complicit in corruption herself, although she did have Rahman endorsements on her leaflets in the mayoral by-election, after he had been proven guilty.

Alex Salmond has resigned from the SNP: www.thenational.scot/news/16606765.read-alex-salmonds-full-statement-on-why-he-resigned-from-the-snp/?ref=twtrecHe's aware the SNP is under pressure to suspend him so he's giving up his membership to forestall it and avoid a party split: "In my letter to the National Secretary I state that it is my absolute intention to reapply for SNP membership just as soon as I have had the opportunity to clear my name. I hope that is by the end of this year. In the meantime I would urge no one else to relinquish their SNP membership."

This will be Rabina Khan's fourth political grouping since 2014. In fact it could even be her fifth as at one point she was an Independent, Independent of the Independents.

In the dim and distant past of May 2018, Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats published a leaflet in which Rabina Khan was described as "former Labour councillor running with a new party". The leaflet was promoting Elaine Bagshaw, herself a former Labour member and activist, although not in Tower Hamlets.

Tower Hamlets is in London but isn't historically in Essex - it was in Middlesex before becoming part of the County of London. (Someone said the defection would be from the part of London that used to be in Essex.) I believe this was a reference to Ilford South.

Well one has to say this was a damp squib and then some, much as I appreciate the LibDem desperation to be represented again on one of their former "flagship" councils

She was; she's been in the Lib Dems for a long while and from a relatively young age, so I'm somewhat skeptical of that claim.

Do any of the locals on this site know if there is a link between the Cllr Sullivan (Pensby- Wirral West)resignation and that of Frank Field?

Do any of the locals on this site know if there is a link between the Cllr Sullivan (Pensby- Wirral West)resignation and that of Frank Field? Not a local but not linked from what I can see. They are to do with different CLPs for a start. Looks like different issues. However in his letter informing the Chief Whip, Field does not pull any punches on a former councillor in Pensby and Thingwall, Louise Reecejones. The only thing that seems to be linked in some way is the dysfunctional nature of wirral labour locally at the moment.

Telford: Lab to LD, Cllr Guy, Woodside Ward, Given that the whole council is up for election next year, do we have an early "deselection defection" sighting?

Telford: Lab to LD, Cllr Guy, Woodside Ward, Given that the whole council is up for election next year, do we have an early "deselection defection" sighting? Apparently this will cost Labour control of the Council so quite a price to pay if that is the reason.

Telford: Lab to LD, Cllr Guy, Woodside Ward, Given that the whole council is up for election next year, do we have an early "deselection defection" sighting? According to his Twitter it’s in protest at “Labour’s fudge on a second referendum... I cannot stay in a party which, nationally, I so fundamentally disagree with on the main issue facing this generation”. Perhaps worth noting that the two Tweets announcing his defection are the first since December 2017 (unless he’s cleared others prior to his announcement).
