And who leads the anti-Swinson faction? Layla Moran tweeted a welcome message to Philip Lee, as did Ed Davey. Genuinely curious, as her leadership has been subpar IMO and one is bound to spring up sooner or later. i think he meant the lefty members rather than the mps As a lefty member, that means little if we don't actually have a champion eligible to challenge her.

This will likely just hasten the demise of Boris Johnson's tenure.

Losing one MP on your first real day at work is bad, losing twenty is sheer incompetence on an unprecedented scale. Even Jezza wasn't this incompetent.

Guys, this may be fun for you, but having to dash over to Google Translate can lose its appeal very quickly, from what is supposed to be an English-language forum. "Guto back to Plaid next perhaps?" "Unlikely. But who knows?" [Inserts woke snowflake - copyright carlton43 - remark about cultural suppression here.] Did you mean 'appropriation' there? I have no copyright on that spelling.

It's like the Tory would rather Brexit at all costs even if it meant destroying their party.

People are assuming Phillip Lee hasn't changed any other of his views in any way over the last few years. Maybe not much of an assumption but an assumption nevertheless. I think people here are a bit cynical of defectors. And if you look at defections threads and the *reasons*, then you will understand why. I hardly think he defected because he thought Bracknell is a winnable Lib Dem seat, which is the usual (genuine) reason for defecting.

Like someone such as Shaun Woodward, the defection will almost certainly prove to be the highest-profile moment of his career. wasn't woodward made a minister? Secretary of State for Northern Ireland for the best part of 3 years. And offensive centric bigotry on the part of your Labour colleague. Jeremy will not be pleased.

There's now a bunch of Tories who (rightly) think there's no place for them in the Tory party and their careers are over. They just don't care any more. Some in Labour too.

Rory Stewart has clarified that he is not stepping down as an MP. But that he will not be standing for the Conservative Party
Has One Nation been registered with the Electoral Commission?
If anyone could lead such a party he could.

It's like the Tory would rather Brexit at all costs even if it meant destroying their party. Well, the parliamentary party is currently in something of a state of cardiac arrest. This is the first time in 40 years that the Conservatives have between 200 and 299 MPs (something for the interesting electoral facts thread, perhaps). But the grassroots will be roaring with approval and if anything tonight's events will bolster their enthusiasm as they seek like-minded candidates for the general election.

The party will be fine, in fact strengthened, so long as Brexit is accomplished. Yup. You're right. Having a hissy fit and kicking out moderate well-liked politicians in favour of more hard-right Tories is going to have a great affect. Such a good look. Worked well for Jezza! Sure you might get some old Ukippers back, but you really think a Tory party that moves even further to the right is going to be attractive to anyone other than Brexiteers? You're pissing off everyone who isn't a diehard Brexiteer. and for what? People are going to notice that Brexit hasn't solved all their problems like they were promised. They're gonna notice they're worse off. And they're going to remember all these rich Tories cheerleading for Brexit. And they will notice that for all his charm, Boris is a fucking retard who has no idea what he's doing let alone talking about.
