SF to meet the SocDems for discussions. The Provos and the Stickies back together. Other than Murphy, the SocDems are either ex-Old-Labour (Shortall, O'Callaghan) or too young/recently politically-involved for the reference to make any sense (Gannon, Whitmore, Cairns). I know, but it was too amusing not to mention!

That would be probably the only sensible non-SF-inclusive solution, but what it would gain Fianna Fail in the long run, I cannot see. Fianna Fail need to be back in government and needs to have the Taoiseach's role, but being linked to Fine Gael's period of office through C&S has been the battering of them. They need to be seen to distance themselves from Fine Gael and give SF enough rope to hang themselves. I have no love for FF, but they are survivors first and foremost.

It's a dangerous situation for FF. If they sit out and let SF run a minority government, are they giving them enough rope to hang themselves, or a platform for a fresh election?

It seems to me that FF can govern with either FG or SF with the knowledge that either party will be hurt by FF period in government. However, whoever isnt propping up FF will be the party that antipathy toward FF will be channeled through. FG and SF will be thinking this whole negotiations go on

The only possible beneficiaries of a FF-FG-GP coalition would be SF (and FG would ship the least damage of the three partners). "More of the same" with knobs on.
Head-numbingly stupid if persisted with.

If a government cannot be formed when does it revert to direct rule? Yes, from Boston. (USA not Lincolnshire) 👽

Hmmmm… the other interesting wrinkle is the possible creation of a Rural Independents' Technical Group - it is being actively canvassed by Marian Harkin and Peader Toibin; a similar group in the last Dail included the re-elected Mattie McGrath, Michael Lowry, the Healey-Raes, Michael Collins and Noel Grealish (Dr. Michael Harty stood down). If you added Peter Fitzpatrick, Richard O'Donoghue and possibly Carol Nolan, that would be a powerful group in any possible coalition.
