I did make a map of Lazio supporters! An alternative description would be 'fascists with expenses accounts' - it's notable how badly FdL did in the more downscale and/or provincial areas that have a strong fascist heritage: very poor performances in Naples, Catania, Reggio Calabria, Bolzano, Trieste and even the fascist-era New Towns on the former Pontine Marshes south of Rome.

No, I want to know exactly what criminal intent is meant by setting up a party? "The byzantine CircusTroops weren't political parties. But today's political parties are CircusTroops." (GOMEZ DAVILA)

How many women were elected to the Italian Parliament and how does it compare to the previous one? It is reported as 34.6% of Deputies and 34.8% of Senators. Up from 30.7 at the Chamber and 28.4% at the Senate last time.

That's the end of fawning articles in the Left-wing press about MS5, then.

Stop laughing at the back! This isn't funny! I'd agree.. but yesterday I saw a serious newspaper musing upon Bonino as a conciliation candidate for the head of the Camera... The EU would claim that as a victory despite her deputies being only able to fill a phone box.

If you misread that map, San Marino looks like it is SERIOUSLY fascist.

They've named themselves after Ezra Pound, of all people. If pieandmash was still contributing he would probably have been able to tell us a bit about them, given their explicit avowal of the Terza Posizione.Your wish is my command. Casa Pound came out of the squat movement. It’s not primarily a political party, but more of a social movement. They do sports, music, tonnes of cultural stuff (including a theatre school, a publisher, and an arts centre (which even spawned its own style, called Turbodinamismo), debates, demonstrations, and other forms of political and direct action. They also run food banks and medical services for poor Italians. In political terms, they are neither left nor right (extreme upper centre, as they’d put it). They propose things like the social mortgage, which aims to guarantee a right to housing (hardly surprising considering their roots). They support things like gay marriage and an expanded welfare state. They’re very anti-usury and anti-imperialist (US, EU, Zionist, etc.). While they’re naturally very anti-immigration, it’s not the main issue for most of them; they focus much more on the social legacy of fascism. They’re revolutionaries rather than traditionalist reactionaries. While I’m not sure I’d support them myself, I certainly support their existence, since they’re part of a wider, and increasingly successful, effort to reclaim radical youth culture from the left. They have about 20,000 members; they've roughly quintupled in size since 2011. I think they could find more space to operate under an MS-5/Lega government. Thanks for the information. A question: Why haven't LN and FdI merged?

As euphemisms go 'anti-usury' is a new one, must admit.

As euphemisms go 'anti-usury' is a new one, must admit. The Canary will probably use it next week. I am keeping a careful eye on this thread.

Article in La Stampa quotes Di Maio as saying:
"Let's do as in Germany - reasoning with his staff - We sign a contract on the program. The relative majority party names the Prime Minister, the government partner takes the most important ministries ". In the government of of Angela Merkel, the Social Democrats have conquered Finances, Foreign Affairs, Work, Environment and the Family. According to the calculations of the M5S, Salvini would have economic or economic development, the Interior Ministry (for the immigration campaign), defense, agriculture and maybe transport....".
Salvini is quoted as saying "It's not a case of "Me as Prime Minister or death". Somewhat dramatic terminology but seems the League have realised they are in second place. A large faction of the PD are prepared to back MS5 apparently. Thus far, except for presidency of one of the chambers, Berlusconi's crowd are being gradually sidelined.
