No doubt that Mid-Staffs was one of the Boundary Commission's "bits left over" seats in the 1983 review. A bit like Eddisbury

I predict Labour 52% Lib Dem 28% Conservative 7% UKIP 6% Green 5% Others 2% If Lib Dems don't do better than that, I'd be ashamed! I wasn't familiar with the boundaries and so I have had a look. I was surprised to find that I lived in it in my student days and, in fact, it contains a large part of the heavily student areas of South Manchester - including the Fallowfield student village. It also includes the former Lib Dem stronghold of Levenshulme and, in 2010 and 2005, Lib Dems polled 33% of the GE vote - a better indicator of the starting position than the 'freak' 2015 debacle. Take out Kaufman's personal vote and add in the facts that most of the constituency has elected Lib Dem Councillors in the last decade and that it voted 62.1% 'Remain' and you have a situation where 28% for Lib Dems would be a dismal failure!

The NW Conservative's alternative seat I'm not a Manchester person but, it looks to me like that just keeps Gorton North and Gorton South - is that correct?

The NW Conservative's alternative seat Similar to the pre-1983 Gorton seat but not really the successor to this seat as it only includes 2 of 7 wards. Where do the other 5 go on their plan?

Levenshulme goes into a Stockport seat with the Heatons and Reddishes Whalley Range goes into Stretford and Urmston Fallowfield goes into Manchester Ardwick (yes, they've (re)created Manchester Ardwick)

Whalley Range should definitely not go to S&U. That's baffling.

Whalley Range should definitely not go to S&U. That's baffling. From their submission: What constituency are they trying to save / create with all of this? I somehow doubt they are that interested in the fate of Manchester Gorton or Stretford and Urmston.

I'm sure I've proposed that Stretford and Urmston in the North West thread.
Wasn't Whalley Range in a Trafford-based seat at some point?

The Labour selection in Gorton has not yet started.

How exactly is this pressure to be applied? (other than hedgehog 's suggested means of Caroline Lucas placing Tim Farron in a headlock)

The Labour selection in Gorton has not yet started. Technically it has as a number of people have already tgrown their hats into the ring. This period prior to formalities is a vital period for the contenders to psych each other out prior to the main games. Names so far include Cllr Mike Amesbury Corbyn's man Sam Wheeler Afzal Khan MEP Cllr Amina Lone who looks a real contender and stood in Morcame and Lonsdale in 2015 cllr Luthfar Rahman. cllr Rabnawaz Akbar
