The conversation was taped, and boy is it bad, I mean really bad, as in bad enough that he could go to jail for this. With the Dirty Dozen senators having just nailed themselves to trump's mast, it would be beautiful if the ship went down now... John Dean has just said that these tapes constitute extortion and (if anyone else was in the room) a criminal conspiracy. I'm happy to take his expert opinion in this regard.

One could certainly regard him as an expert.

One wonders what impact this might have on the good electors of Georgia. Marginal to trivial on the cultists. And of course many, perhaps most, have voted already. But it tells you something about the attitude of the local GOP state officials like Raffensperger that this is being released before on-the-day voting, with the two GOP candidates standing apparently firmly behind this behaviour.

With the Dirty Dozen senators having just nailed themselves to trump's mast, it would be beautiful if the ship went down now... I would imagine that a few of the smarter ones are thinking A) Bugger! Why did I play my hand so early? B) Can I possibly back out of this now without looking even more ridiculous?

So how long before Trump is banged up for his inept attempts to rig the election in Georgia?

Just a quick reminder for those who haven't been following all this that closely. Trump is due to hold a rally in Georgia tomorrow night, supposedly in support of Perdue and Loeffler's senate run off campaigns. Could be interesting.

Knowing Trump, he’ll now spend most of it attacking the Georgia GOP administration...

The full transcript really should be read by everyone. One of Trump's main arguments is that the number of people that came to his rallies means that he can't possibly have lost Georgia. He really does believe his own mythology. Much of it reads like someone trying to patiently reason with a lunatic.
---- Raffensperger: Mr. President, the problem you have with social media, they — people can say anything. Trump: Oh this isn’t social media. This is Trump media. It’s not social media. It’s really not it’s not social media. I don’t care about social media. I couldn’t care less. ----
Raffensperger: Well Mr. President, the challenge that you have is the data you have is wrong. We talked to the congressmen and they were surprised. But they — I guess there was a person Mr. Braynard who came to these meetings and presented data and he said that there was dead people, I believe it was upward of 5,000. The actual number were two. Two. Two people that were dead that voted. So that’s wrong. ----
Raffensperger: You’re talking about the State Farm video. And I think it’s extremely unfortunate that Rudy Giuliani or his people, they sliced and diced that video and took it out of context. The next day we brought in WSB-TV and we let them show, see the full run of tape and what you’ll see, the events that transpired are nowhere near what was projected by, you know —

Republicans have overwhelmingly voted to accept the legitimacy of the 2020 House elections. This means that their position is now that there was no fraud in House elections, but on the same ballots there was mass fraud in the presidential election. Really.

Imagine you are at an election count and there are 10 potentially spoilt ballots. 5 are votes cast for you and 5 for your opponent. Which ones do you make an effort to get included?

It would be nice if we could create some sort of virtual world like The Matrix where Trump and his fantasists could live and the rest of us get on with the analogue world. We all joked about Downfall but the stuff about winning Georgia because his rallies were so big is not so far off the imaginary army of Steiner. I annoyed someone on here four years ago by quoting the co-author of Art of the Deal to the effect that Trump is a sociopath - not in the mass-murder way, but in the ego-blocks-reality-and-conscience way. I rather discounted the claims by one of my customers six months back (based on his time observing assorted dictators on behalf of HMG) that Trump would try to mount a coup. But here we are. * Confession: I've never read Foucault. You know what I mean.

I think he is more likely to be a narcissist than a sociopath.
