I tend to refer to rosettes as dartboards when they are above a certain size.

Gwyn's 27th Rule of Politics. 27th, you say? Now I'm curious as to what the other 26 are...

My sage advice is that he should prepare for a chilli reception, but he might have some joy in thyme. But a win for him might be anise surprise for the Lib Dems. Tarragon. Let's not get too carawayed by all this. Ulster says Oregano!

Any news from the Lincolnshire Independents re: this by-election?

Mark Suffield - "Although a member of the Lincolnshire Independents political group on the council, he has opted to finance himself and stand as a total independent rather than leave things to chance by going through the party selection process."
So is he endorsed by the Lincs Independents, or will they be putting up a different candidate?

So no candidate here as well! Given up the pretence of being a serious party then?

So no candidate here as well! Given up the pretence of being a serious party then? Perhaps they were afraid of becoming a laughing stock? Do you think a very weak result does confer that title? I think that UKIP and Greens are the sort of party that are more campaign, statement and insurgency oriented to serious structural builders like the LDs? Now, if the LDs get 113 and are 6th behind the OMRL they do get laughed at. I don't think the Greens having a stall in the High Street and doing a delivery of a punchy leaflet on aims and objects containing a short address from the candidate can fail to be useful whatever the poll result. They should be using these profile opportunities to make a splash and to spread the message.

I broadly agree, though tactically it could make sense for them if the independent is close to the party - they can still run their stall and give out their leaflets while calling for a vote for her, and if she does well they could potentially gather more support than standing their own candidate.

Gwyn's 27th Rule of Politics. The size of someone's rosette is inversely proportional to the seriousness of their candidature. Not sure if it applies to poppies. This thread is boring and will end with an easy Conservative win. On the other hand 'Gwyn's Rules of Politics' sound profound and fascinating and we demand a new thread on them.................Please.
