I've got an announcement. This has been planned for some time. As the saying goes, "It's not you, it's me..." I've been posting here and predecessors since 2004. It's been great. This is one of the best debating/discussion/information groups in the UK. I mean, I don't actually know any others, but I assume it must be true But if the last year has taught me anything, it's that I need to spend more time interacting with friends and family. (In a sense you are family - in the sense that half of you suck and I hate being around you Just kidding! Mostly.) This means less time on the internet, and this site is most of my internet time. I've tried doing "less" time here, but the problem is that so many of you are just WRONG and need correcting...I just can't keep at "less". So like a drug that I'm addicted to, I realised some months ago that I needed to step away properly, for it to work. The timing of the Covid re-opening after this weekend, coincident with the elections last week, is the ideal red line. Some of you will be glad to see the back of me; others less so. But do all keep going. I may return in a few years, or maybe I'll glance in when something big happens. Keep putting the world to rights. I hope between you you can find a solution to the proper mess the world is in right now. Now, so long, and thanks for all the fish. The Meader Boy We will miss you. I hope you are able to come back some day, or at least pop back in from time to time.

Some of you will be glad to see the back of me; others less so. And I was just starting to like you...... Perhaps that's a sign!
I may be joining you soon too, but for very different reasons. Politics has become an odd bed-fellow these days and although I don't spend every living minute here, I find that the wrong-sayers are so utterly blind and partisan that it is becomming a secondary twittersphere. Perhaps it's a phase and one which I've lived too, but age/experience has its benefits and you just know when it's not worth the hassle.
Good luck and all the best.

That’s a shame. I don't agree with you every time , but you put your arguments very effectively , and with courtesy even where things get a little heated! I quite agree with your comments about this site. There are so many excellent and knowledgable posters, often in fields where I simply read to inform myself without having anything to contribute. Do keep looking in- and don’t feel too much the diffidence people inevitably do, after announcing their departure, in popping back in from time to time!

gutted about this. mboy is one of my favourite posters on here. Not stuck like glue to a party line, just expresses his opinion as he sees it. Posts always thought provoking. Often i agreed with him, but far from always. He called every issue as he saw it and is a man after my own heart in that regard. You will be missed, hope you come back one day when the time is right for you

I am very, very sorry, and sad, to read this mboy. There may be a couple of people celebrating this news, but that's because you challenged their views when they were wrong and didn't back down when they whined about it. That will be missed, as will your contributions on many other topics, especially those I disagreed with. However, I do understand your reasoning, this place is addictive and family must come first, always. I do hope you will return one day. Peace ✌🏻

Take short break if needed, it helps clear the system, worked for me in January, but we need a wide variety of posters on here it's part of its success. Hope you both keep posting on and off, and especially around election times.

Yes, had plenty of arguments with mboy but they were almost always good natured with only a handful of exceptions. I do think the obsession with "wokeness"could get a bit much recently, and tbh I wonder if that is a factor with him taking a step back. Nonetheless, one both hopes and expects that they will return in due course Take care.

Secondly, I wish you well in your use of the time and energy you’ll save from taking part in this. We sometimes agreed, often not. And I found your style of argument strange (or at least different to mine!). But you brought some interesting perspectives and some genuine knowledge. Thank you.
