Reported on this thread and on The Internet on 18th July. The One Love Party has since deleted its Twitter account - perhaps Mr Love has developed a sense of self-awareness?

From his Facebook page, Waqas Ali Khan still appears to be loyal to UKIP despite his standing as an Independent, and UKIP don't seem to mind him standing as such. I don't suppose it matters to them given that no official UKIP candidate will be standing anyway. www.facebook.com/byelection2016/?fref=nfSo we have Khan, Buckby and Hirst standing so far.

when is the by election going to happen The writ hasn't been moved yet, so we don't know. I mean, none of the parties are exactly on tenterhooks.

I note Batley and Spen CLP nominated Owen Smith this week. May be an indication that the candidate is not likely to be a Corbynite.

Let's leave it vacant until 2020......As A Mark Of Humble And Fervent Respect. This isn't like a district council where there are three members to each ward. A constituency has but one MP. Leaving a seat vacant for most of the length of the present Parliament would seriously undermine local people's ability to be represented.

Parliament is on recess until 5th Sept, so I suspect the writ will be moved when it returns, with an election date of 6th Oct.

Fine, as we don't need representation let's abolish Parliament. Carlton can decide on public policy single handed.

Insignificant non-spokesman for UKIP in unseemly altercation with rising UKIP nonentity.

I have been concerned here Peter all along with the absurd nonsense surrounding this unpleasant murder. We should just be having a normal period of decent cessation of party strife followed by a by-election contested by all the usual suspects and THAT would be a proper expression of the democratic process and to show that nothing alters, life continues and all normal processes continue. By having competitive angst-fests it just extended the stupidity to the logical conclusion of an extended period of political grandstand mourning right up to 2020. That makes more sense than the idiocy of having no contest.

Yes I agree that a normal by election after a reasonable time had elapsed would have been the best solution here. Sometimes it is difficult to see on the internet when someone is joking.

And it would make ZERO difference to 99% of the population in the constituency. The same could be said for most, if not all, constituencies.
