Aren't Reform UK in general the diametric opposite of Labour in terms of their views? Of course, you may have altered your views so they are more congruent with them. Jump right into the loopy juice side of the political spectrum? All very puzzling? What you consider loopy, depends on your political views. I'm independent enough to see loopy (juice) views across the whole political spectrum.

Also stop people wearing masks whilst the restrictions are gone. How do you propose to do that? By law? Waste if effort, lets leave the old and /or scared be, the governments done enough damage to their mental health already by the way it messaged it pro-masks and covid policy, without a new badly messaged anti-mask policy being imposed.

Organising by branch (I presume by this you mean ward) is mad. When I was involved in the local Con party, one of the things I helped pushed through was organising everything at a constituency level, as otherwise the wrong areas end up being worked. Labour can probably get away with it in London due to huge raw numbers, but elsewhere it must be a problem. Mmm, it depends. For small party subdivisions based on council wards, yes. When I was a Labour member, the 4 wards of Reading BC North of the River were merged into one branch because there were barely enough active members to keep one branch going NoR pre and post-Corbyn. But Reading and District Cluster fuck (basically all Labour branches in the Borough) would have been a nightmare on a constituency basis, because of the stupid borough boundaries forcing them to split activity between Labour Reading/Woky/West Berks BC/ activity in both parliamentary seats (which both crossed the stupid boundaries).

How do you propose to do that? By law? They were imposed by law. I don't recall you objecting. (No, I would not support the use of the law, because unlike most of the nation last year, I am not a tin pot fascist without the self-awareness to know that I am one) Masks are great. They serve as an early warning of who is likely to barge past you to get something off the shelf at the supermarket.

When I was in Geneva and Lausanne in April, there was hardly one to be seen.

When I was in Geneva and Lausanne in April, there was hardly one to be seen. Short answer, no. Down to a few paranoid types and pensioners, perhaps 5-10% on the local bus. However, Basel SBB also has trains come in from Germany. Often, the train from Germany pulls up next to mine, and over 50% of Germans keep their mask on (compulsory on German trains still!) after changing onto the Basel trams.

I’m presuming that the Conservative party hasn’t frozen its membership for the forthcoming leadership election. Is there anyone on here other than declared Conservatives who is tempted to join and take part?

If I’m not mistaken, the national rules of the Party only permit members to vote in any selection at any level if they have three months membership at the time of the selection.

I was trying to find out this info but had been unable. I wasn't particularly tempted in any event, but I was sure there was some cut off point of that kind (I thought six months) and its right that there should be

Is there anyone on here other than declared Conservatives who is tempted to join and take part? Is it really worth for the cost and the fact you'll only get to choose between two candidates? It's not like the popcorn inducing 2015 selection where a Conservative councillor friend of mine joined 10 times with his real address and name to vote for Jezza.

Do you mean signed up as a registered supporter? Only one of his votes would have been counted and JC would have won without that category anyway. But thanks for the £27.

The number of times I have heard this sort of stuff does not match with the reality either of the number of registered supporters or the processes involved - these would not have been counted

I was pleased to make sure that Dan Hodges didn't get a vote in that. They acted quite quickly. He had made it clear that he was not supporting Labour at that time

It's pretty clear that Corbyn won very comfortably regardless of any hostile participation.
