Red in politics and blue in football Wycombe Wanderers? ' Divers droite' is a lazy, simplistic label that brings shame to French politics. That its use persists among the entire French media and the Ministère de l'Intérieur is one of the worst examples of deluded French exceptionalism.

I have thought of inviting Non-Aligned members to ask for the kind of description Pete Whitehead mentions (not necessarily French sounding ones), to add a dose of colour to the grey exterior of their usernames. We do already have the non party specific label of Socialist for those on the opposite side of the spectrum, although the ascendancy of Jeremy Corbyn has reduced their already low numbers. I wish people standing as Independents in elections in the UK were still able to better indicate to we observers what sort of Independents they are, actually - as they do in France. I don't know why the Electoral Commission have now apparently forbidden the use of "Independent Conservative" or whatever. There will be no such restrictions here on this forum!

Thanks for the thought of inviting us to ask then I'd think of something along the lines of 'Libertarian Right' if I was invited to ask.

I'd describe myself as a individualist. Wouldn't we all?

A line we now know to have been ad libbed by Terence Bayler. Along with "I'm Brian and so's my wife". He should have been given some sort of honour/improved pension just for those. Also appeared as Leggy Mountbatten in the Eric Idle's Beatles spoof The Rutles. (which reminds me that I saw that Ron Howard film of the Beatles touring while I was in Edinburgh. Very interesting. As a bonus you got the whole of their set at Shea Stadium at the end. All 30 minutes of it)

If you are looking to add a bit of variation to the username colours of us Non-Aligned folk, I'm quite willing to be the inaugural member of the 'Labour Leaning' group (like how Jack is 'Lib Dem Leaning')... I figure "Hey, why not?", especially seeing as that's most likely how I'm going to vote at the next major election anyway...

I only said I voted for them, I haven't actually joined up with them*! * Though I did briefly consider the prospect, but then I thought better of it.

Whenever anyone describes themselves as being leaning, I always expect to next see them face down in the mud.
