Nah, Trump loves Scandies. He and his father pretended to be of Swedish origin for a long, long time.

Nah, Trump loves Scandies. He and his father pretended to be of Swedish origin for a long, long time. Only because of the stigma connected to being German. Karlstad happens to be the most logical non-German alternative to Kallstadt.

Advert on Danish bus, appealing to US citizens to participate in the Presidential election. Part of me really wants the other side of the bus to have Hillary on. The bus was paid for by the Socialist People's Party, apparently - wonder what Donald thinks of that? Danes next on the list to be banned from the US? I tend to disbelieve anything I see on the side of a bus. Particularly about NHS spending!

By which time there had been a German-American president! A defence mechanism by the father, an affectation by the son.

Surely Eisenhower as a war hero from both Workd Wars would not have been considered German?

It was an old "Pennsylvania Dutch" family.

Anyway, only a few years after he stopped pretending to be Swedish, he was a marshal of a large German-American parade. Here's an amusing photo of a right-wing ethnic German and a right-wing ethnic Italian.

It was problematic to be German in NYC in the 50s and 60s, and Fred Trump was only 2nd generation. That is not comparable to being old stock Pennsylvania Dutch.

But Donald was repeating in even in the Art of the Deal. In fact, this article here states that in the same book, he even claimed that Fred himself was an emigrant from Sweden: nordic.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-told-the-world-he-was-of-swedish-ancestry---but-its-a-lie-2016-8/My suspicion is that whilst it was convenient for Fred, it was kept going by Donald because German ancestry is not very exciting in America, where it is of course very common. Swedish has a certain glamour.

Swedish has a certain glamour. If you are a public figure with an established family history the most natural thing is to stick to it. I suppose Donald only changed it because too many people had written about the Kallstadt connection.

An intriguing question someone put to me today.
Isn't Trump giving off a whiff of LaRouche?

If I were an accomplished correspondent like Hala Gorani, known for guarding her political and religious convictions from the audience, I'd also be put out by having to deal with the TV character "Katie Hopkins" (played by meteorologist Katie Hopkins), who is a bit like a political Keith Lemon.

What's wrong with using paper and pencil. The integrity of the result should never be in question.
