I certainly consider this idea to be both original and imaginative. I might even go so far to call it novel.

I suspect Richard may be channelling Sir Humphrey.

Baronets tend to be the touchy ones and often rather well off. A charge to inherit the title seems good for all ranks. Creating more peers for a fee is a very good idea. Having a House of Peers from which a proportion are elected to the HOL is also a good one. If they are all paying fees to be 'noble' there is obviously no need for any HOL fees or allowances. If you want to serve then your choice. No cash is paid to you. what about fees for life peerages paid to the Crown rather than by back-handers to the party in power............or as rewards to several Bugginses?

"He now sat down and Bond followed suit. 'Yes, yes, yes. Very interesting indeed. Very. But I fear I have to disappoint you, my dear sir. The title is extinct. Actually it's a baronetcy. Most desirable. But no doubt we can establish a relationship through a collateral branch. Now then' " - On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Fife is neither big nor important. It returns only 4 MPs which means it is smaller than every English county with the exceptions of Rutland, Herefordshire, Huntingdonshire and the Isle of Wight

My own idea is an upper house for councils staffed by ex councillors with the ability to refer decisions made at committee level back to full council with a recommended amendment. I also favour sending junior royals off to the Dominions to fulfil the post of Deputy High Commissioner. Wills and Cate would have been packed off to Australia until such time as she had whelped in a Melbourne maternity hospital The Aldermanic Bench restored.

if the Earl of Rutland could afford an upgrade he would seek one The Duke of Rutland might have something to say about that

Barons to be Col. in Chief of County Regiments TA detachments. If they can get up to 3-Battalions full strength and properly trained, all nobility fees waived and they got into an annual draw for promotion to Viscount (Brig.Gen.).

I would prefer to concentrate more on the Absolute Monarchy bit rather than the House of Lords bit. Key and important roles for Peter Phillips, Prince Harry, and Prince Louis of Luxembourg (and perhaps a few others).

I would prefer to concentrate more on the Absolute Monarchy bit rather than the House of Lords bit. Key and important roles for Peter Phillips, Prince Harry, and Prince Louis of Luxembourg (and perhaps a few others). Conversely I would like the opposite. Abolish the monarchy of foreign rulers and re-vamp the HOL with power to the Barons. Real 'Localism' with an iron fist. As lord Torridon I would adopt the devices of a Raven and Gorse.

But it is overwhelmingly more likely that you would be a vassal of Lord Torridon Vassal! How dare you. We are all directors in our own pipe dream delusion here.

I suspect Richard may be channelling Sir Humphrey. No, if that was the case the idea would be brave, nay courageous .....

£5m for an Earl £10m for a Duke Pity the poor Marquesses. They must feel very left out! How much to be one of them, then – say £7m?

She wants this revived. £10k pa to be a baronet. £100k for a baron £1m for a Viscount £5m for an Earl £10m for a Duke If you can't or won't pay up, you are stripped of your title and it can be offered to the New Rich. Referring to yourself by a title you no longer hold to be an offence Income goes to fund the Monarchy including charitable works Lloyd George would be proud of you....

I had a letter from Ruritania once, addressed to the wrong person. I sent it back marked "Return to Zenda".
