Coventry is now too small for 3 seats, will presumably have to add the Meriden ward from Solihull. May well result in very tight Con/Lab marginal.
Difficult to know how they will approach the rest of the region. It all depends how willing they will be to split wards, eg Birmingham could have 9 seats on its own but would require several splits.

Herefordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire can't stand alone. It's obvious to group the first three in that list for 12 seats, and I fancy the idea of pairing Coventry and Warwickshire for 8. That would give 2 for Solihull, 9 for Birmingham, 11 for the Black Country and 11 for Staffordshire.

I managed Birmingham with 4 ward splits last time, but including the 3 obvious ones in Perry Barr, Nechells, and South Yardley. I'm inclined to lobby for the use of the new ward boundaries this time, which will be confirmed before the Boundary Commission publishes parliamentary proposals. It may prove possible to avoid ward splits.
However my reading is that there will need to be 2 seats that cross the Birmingham boundaries in order to deal with Warwickshire, Coventry, and Solihull.

My first offering of Warwickshire North was not liked by a Coleshill councillor I know as being "not enough Bedworth" so I have added Bedworth and he has given it his blessing therefore wish to formally submit "North Warwickshire and Bedworth" North Warwickshire Borough Council: Arley and Whitacre, Atherstone Central, Atherstone North, Atherstone South and Mancetter, Baddesley and Grendon, Coleshill North, Coleshill South, Curdworth, Dordon, Fillongley, Hartshill, Hurley and Wood End, Kingsbury, Newton Regis and Warton, Polesworth East, Polesworth West, Water Orton Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council: Bede, Exhall, Heath, Poplar, Slough Total Electorate: 74,124 (99.1% of electoral quota)

As ever, Harry, that one seat has to fit with every one if its immediate neighbours *and* those across the WM region. In isolation, it works. Within the entire region, it may not.

I have now managed to come up with a Rugby, Stratford and Warwick that fit into the rules, the only problem now is that trying to fit the bits of Warwick that don't fit into Warwick into Coventry leaves me with St. Michael's ward going nowhere (as it makes Coventry's three seats all over quota)

Hmm. Methinks the good people of Kenilworth will be none too delighted with this. I'll see if there's a better option when I return from holiday.

It would have the benefit of uniting the Warwick University campus within one seat.

There is no residential in the Warwick part of the campus.

There is no residential in the Warwick part of the campus. Not true. There are halls on both sides of the county boundary. I was a student there in 1997, and I voted in Rugby & Kenilworth constituency. There was a polling station for that part of campus, set up in my halls of residence.

How do you end up putting Foleshill in Coventry South ?!?

How do you end up putting Foleshill in Coventry South ?!? Good question. That proposal would make a lot more sense if you put Foleshill in East and Cheylesmore in South. I haven't looked at the new numbers yet to check that's viable, but the Coventry wards are pretty similar sizes to each other.

This particular region will be very difficult for the Boundary Commission to draw new constituencies from carefully enough, so some usable sample constituencies here would help. Ward splitting is for the most part unavoidable due to the ward sizes being larger, often much larger, than the numerical electoral range into which constituencies can fit under the rules of this review (which is 7476).
The urban West Midlands (a complete redrawing is needed, really):
1. Sutton Coldfield. Unchanged from current boundaries. Electorate: 73,172. 2. Birmingham Erdington. The Birmingham wards of Kingstanding, Erdington, Stockland Green and Tyburn, plus half of the Oscott ward. Electorate: 76,450 approx. 3. Birmingham Hodge Hill. The Birmingham wards of Shard End, Bordesley Green, Washwood Heath, Hodge Hill, and part of Stetchford & Yardley North. Electorate: 78,200 approx. 4. Birmingham Handsworth. The Birmingham wards of Soho, Handsworth Wood, Lozells Heath, and Perry Barr, plus half of the Oscott ward. Electorate: 74,200 approx. 5. Birmingham Yardley. The Birmingham wards of Stetchford & Yardley North (part), South Yardley, Sheldon, Acocks Green, and two-thirds of Springfield ward. Electorate: 77,600 approx. 6. Birmingham Central. The Birmingham wards of Aston, Ladywood, Nechells, Edgbaston (part) and Sparkbrook. Electorate: 77,800 approx. 7. Birmingham Hall Green. The Birmingham wards of Hall Green, Kings Norton, Brandwood, and Billesley, plus part of Springfield. Electorate: 77,250 approx. 8. Birmingham Northfield. The Birmingham wards of Longbridge, Northfield, Bartley Green, and Quinton, plus one-third of Weoley. Electorate: 75,200 approx. 9. Birmingham Edgbaston & Selly Oak. The Birmingham wards of Selly Oak, Bournville, Moseley & Kings Heath, Harborne, and Edgbaston (part). Electorate: 77,100 approx. 10. Coventry North East. Unchanged from current boundaries. I find it somewhat unlikely that a seat which does not contain Perry Barr would be called Birmingham Perry Barr.
