Kingswinford North & Wall Heath – Dudley MBC – Natalie Neale (Conservative) resigned for personal reasons (very difficult divorce). She was first elected in 2014 and is a caseworker for Mike Wood, MP for Dudley South.

I've heard some speculation that UKIP in Dudley could be seeking to turn the two by-elections into a quasi-referendum on the supposedly undemocratic creation of the West Midlands Combined Authority and its proposed elected mayor. Are they making any sort of effort in these votes? Does anyone have any on-the-ground knowledge?

I'd be surprised if they're not making an effort given that Dudley is one of relatively few places where the party is well organised and that they have won St James ward in the past and remained competitive since then

If she decided to say it, I don't see why I would not say it (if it was found by a newspaper without her approval, I wouldn't have said it). It also opens the door to her coming back once everything is solved. |

As reasons for a resignation can sometimes have an impact on the outcome of the subsequent by-election (although probably not in this case), I'd say that id such things are in the public domain as cited reasons for resignation, then they are relevant for inclusion on this thread.

By 2011 the Con/Ind incumbent was back with the Conservatives and the former SDP candidate was standing as an independent topping the poll and defeating the other incumbent Conservative, before holding his seat again in 2015, when the former independent conservative stood down and was replaced by the now sadly deceased councillor Sankey. |

Whole Richmondshire is that. Many Independent councillors there are former Conservatives (the previous Independent Council Leader was first elected as Conservative, for exemple. They tried running against him, but stopped trying about a 95-5 defeat.). Some Independents return to Conservatives, too. See, Jill MCMullon was first elected as a Conservative councillor for Middleton Tyas, but defected at some point between 2007 and 2011 (and from her Twitter account, she won't go back there soon, she seems to hate current government / Conservative Council and hate all national politicians but Corbyn.). She was beaten by a Conservative in 2015, so she runs there. She must have some local support, her proposer is Tony Pelton, the SDP-Independent councillor for the ward (which topped the poll every time he was on ballot since 1999). |

While resigning, he complained about Studley parish council "procrastination" about supporting the new Studley Business Forum. The new Conservative (former LD) candidate is the Chairman of the parish council. |

Is this correct? I make the council currently: Labour - 37 seats Conservative - 24 seats UKIP - 7 seats Green - 1 seat Independent - 1 seat vacancies - 2 If the two vacant seats are won by parties other than Labour, then the Labour majority is still 2 by my reckoning, rather than going NOC. |
